The Saloon looks like a fixer to me, you might end up with it being brought back fixed :?

Quite surprised but maybe the sussy was bent, then the repair becomes mega ££££££££

I still think of the 407 as being quite new and expensive but I guess an 8 year old one would be sub £3k now.

This is my biggest worry with my Volvo, I've spent so much money keeping it just-so mechanically and in top condition that it is actually irreplaceable to me. I know as soon as anyone hits it it will be written off and it's a horrible way to travel around with that in mind.

Yea i know exactly how you feel welly, that was the case with my first 407, paid nearly 10k for it and loved it,owned it just over 6 years and when it was written off all i got from the insurance was a measly £2400. I bought my last one as it was the best replacement i could find at short notice (was a week before xmas) for £2700, spent quite a bit getting it somewhere near what i wanted ( i never did gel properly with it tho) and again i'm back to the start, only saving grace for me is we got chance to look at 3 or 4 before seeing this one and as soon as i sat in it,it felt right. Its been in for the windows tinted today and ive done a couple of minor things to make it mine. Nothing major just replaced the locking wheelnuts as they are a PITA and bought 2 new keyfobs from ebay for the grand sum of £8.90 so the keys arent scabby looking.

My main concern now is that ive never gotten a 407 to 90k miles, first one had about 80k.last one 88k and this one is 89k. Fingers crossed

We have done 70,000 miles in our 407 now...94,000 on the clock today.

Apart from the DMF failure at 44,000, I have fitted 2 sets of discs and pads (second today), 4 drop links as of today, 4 ball joints as of today....nothing else except I have the dreaded heater flap fault to fix....I'm going to repair it soon, hopefully using my own method, but we'll see.

Good luck with yours trem, hopefully you get a good long life out of it without any more drama :D

Not sure what to do about the heater flap repair, I have an idea that might work using less effort, but until I start the job it's all guesswork.

someones just posted this fix on peugeotforums Jasper

"for anybody wanting to try whats mentioned above. take the parts off to see down the vent holes and see if you can see the break. we left the engine running so the top flaps stayed open and adjusted the temp up and down to open the break to get some resin in the break. then closed the break at 21.5`c and held pushed the break together with a welding rod. once we assumed it was dry (5 minute epoxy) he put some more glue in the lattice to try and strengthen it. i had a little piece of 1mm mild steel folded to a 90 degree angle this was glued over the crack (lowered by a magnet extension) and held in place for a few mins with a welding rod. during this time the engine was running and fans were adjusted as needed."
