Best make tyres for a 406 hdi

My car currently runs on 195 65 15 pirelli,s which are standard fit have seen other 406's with 205 60 15 what make tyre and size would people advise?

205 60 r15 are the biggest 15" tyres you can get, i would recommend either toyo proxes or goodyear eagle f1's, dont even tink about the pirelli 'ditch finder' P6000
the 205 60 15 is a very expensive tyre compared to the 195 65 15, you will get better handling with the 205's but more ride comfort with the 195 due to the higher profile

I dont think you can get the 'proper' proxes T1R's in those sizes.

Have a look through 'mytyres' on the web and read all the reports on tyre performance.

Vredestein tyres are rated really well in the 195/65 15 sizes.

Just make sure you avoid to 'Kung-po' types.

I have Kumho tyres on my 406, they give excellent grip for budget money.

Keep to the standard 195's tho.

Goodyear eagle f1's are what I have in 195.
Much better than the Michelin that were on there when I go the car.

If I could could get really cheap hankook tyres would anyone be interested?

I work with the daughter of one of the chief execs for the UK.

Am trying to source cheap slicks from her at the moment for the Sallye once I change the engine again.

Agreed, thats what were on the alloys I bought and my 6 stuck to the road like glue in all conditions bar snow.

I was thinking about trying a set of 205/60/15's on my D8 just to see how much of a difference they make. MyTyres quoted £49 for a set of 4 Kumho Solus KH21 205/60 R15 91V. Has anyone tried these?

We have Continental premium contact on the 406 and they are excellent,very grippy,quiet and great in the wet

I'm going for Goodyear Excellence tomorrow - seem to be a good price and the reviews are very positive!

Was going to grab some Contis, but just can't run to it...

Goodyear Excellence now on the car and feels very smooth. I don't chuck it around, so can't really comment on grip, but it feels nice and stable. Road noise is much less than the cheap junk that was on there, so overall - result!

I ran mine on Dunlop SP Sports. Cheap, and far better than the Bakelite compound OE Michelins, with a much nicer steering response.

Turbolag. We spoke on the diesel drivers website about strutbraces if you can remember. What size tyres are you currently running on your pug? Dont really want the ride any harder. Love how smooth the pug rides unless i will get sh*t loads more grip and more stable at high speeds will stick with the 195/65/15 pirelli p6000 as i have used for the last 4/5 years. Strange people always seem to slate them i find them very good for the pug. Also how much better is th pug with the strut brace? Will try dunlops next time i think. are they the sp 2000's?

My 406 is still running 195/65 VR15 SP10s. funnily enuff, my Mi16 is running P6000s on the rear and seems to have massive grip in all conditions.

The strrut brace is well worth the £50 it costs from strutbracer, or less perhaps from Fleabay. It completely eliminates the low speed/wet weather understeer, and the whole plot feels a lot more positive when cornering hard. Oh, and they look right sweet too.

I've pretty much given up on DieselDriver. great site, but 1 moderator in particular is very confrontational with his posts when he disagrees, and I can't be arrussed with that kind of bullying behaviour. Much more positve and civilised on here, which reflects the grown-uppedness and maturity of the average oh-6 pilot, eh foxy?

Cheers for that i will be investing in a strutbrace and keeping the tyres standard what colour are the strutbraces? ideally i would like black to blend in with the pug under the bonnet. For a guess you are refering to scanner from diesel driver? me and him have had a few crossed words which resulted in some of my posts being removed

What are the full name of the dunlops you use please as i have seen sp 2000's are you using sp 1000's? Also how many miles do you get out of your tyres as i get 10,000 to 12,000 i would imagine they last longer with the strutbrace? Cheers

I've always stuck with the Pirellis that she had on from new, a couple of sets of P6000s and now she's on P7s. Well happy

Having a slightly manic moment, it's another one of those intangible "I know you got soul" things. I just don't want my car shod in japanese rubber, used to have contis on my mondeo, never liked them. Don't like Dunlops, they just don't look right, Michelin come across as really pretentious. Had some bad experiences with budget makes. Can't really explain why, but I just like Pirellis.

...and tomorrow afternoon, we'll have 2 cars wearing P7s
