Are these ramps suitable for the 406?
As per title, need to do an oil change soon and am fed up of jacking the car up on either side with my crappy jack and having to use jack stands. Are these ok or do I need the low profile ramps?

I borrowed a set of ramps from a mate at work, to sort my FAP out, but as my drive is sloping down and to the right slightly, the drivers side ramp just touched the bottom of the bumper, but the passenger side properly dragged up the ramp
You now have your car pretty much immaculate, so I would suggest you borrow a set of ramps, ones that you can give back if they are too short, and park on a flat surface.

When I slowly moved the car towards them I realised the leading edge of the bumper would not clear the ramps.
I solved the problem by placing pieces of wood in front of the ramps, to raise the front end of the car as I drove
onto the ramps.
Result.

Wow - you have balls of steel.....
I like it though, it looks like it works a treat.
I should imagine the first time you used them was a very bum-clenching moment, but I guess you find it normal now.
I bet you are glad the handbrake on a 406 is such a great design...

I made a pair of those "low clearance extensions" (like in fattail's link) out of wood. They work a treat

I have been using it for about 40 years and haven't had one drop on me yet, I have also used it with heavier vehicles, I ran CXs and XMs for many years. I have replaced the timbers as the old ones had wood wasps nests in them, these are 4" thick and I have once replaced the oil drums, I keep the insides oily so they dont rust.
Its the most useful tool I have, the wheels are just the right height to work on the brakes/suspension and I have a low stool I can sit on to work underneath. It looks far more dangerous than it is.

I guess that's fine to use like you say but I must say it does look a bit iffy. I don't know what the compressive strength is on those barrels but to be fair I guess they are extremely tough.

The original barrels had rusted through but they were still supporting the car OK, its amazing how strong they are in compression. Supports my sons truck OK and that weighs over 2 tons.
I have fallen off the side a couple of times, my brother in law put his mini van an there and moved the boards without me knowing and the Vauxhall Cresta I had at the time dropped off the edge, very simple to restore though, a 4" post on top of my old Bradbury jack (bought in 1965 for £17.50) on the ground, lift the car above the board and slide it back under the wheels.
I was doing 30,000 miles a year at one time so its done a lot of oil changes, many many repairs, and quite a number of diesel conversions.
