Topping up Eolys fluid

I need to top up the Eolys tank...can I just put 1 litre in then reset counters or do I need to fill the tank....not done this job before so not familiar with what the situation is.
Low fluid warning is on.

From what I remember about filling up my 406's was that it had to be filled to a certain level.
We (as in the mechanic and I) just filled it with diesel and I reset it on PP2000.
I think we had to play around opening and closing the fuel filler flap too? It was a bit of funny process.

I only had mine for two months after filling the additive tank with diesel.
It never seemed to cause any issues but bare in mind under no circumstances should my 406 have even had a FAP.
I imagine as long as you do long drives, use quality diesel and low SAPS oil then you should be fine.
My Uncle bought my HDi90 at 6 months old. It had 6 previous owners, all of them being Peugeot UK and 3 different Peugeot dealers. I think it was some sort of test bed for Peugeot because it had an odd specification.

Don't fill it with diesel unles you're removing the FAP.

The additive is a catalyst that reduces the temperature at which the soot burns off. Without the catalyst the regen process cannot burn the soot off and the filter will remain blocked.

i've alway thought they only have fluid..so it basicly 'sets fire to itself,

RWB is right in saying that Eolys reduces the temperature in which the soot will burn.
Soot without Eolys will actually burn in as little temperature as 300°c. An exhaust will sit around 300°c on the motorway anyway! To an extent it will be passively regenerating.
Think of this like an oven though, you can pop your hand in a 300 deg C over for five seconds with no ill effects, but you cant leave it there or you will burn. The soot in the DPF is the same, it needs constant exposure to the heat to be effective. As Jaspers other half does longer journeys I would put a bet on it actually being totally fine!
During regeneration the exhaust temperature is increased to 650°c.
Eolys is mainly used to aid regeneration for cars that do shorter journeys.

If it's the same as a 2.2 406, the low level sensor is a thermistor immersed on the fluid which 'cools' it.
If left uncovered, the sensor overheats and goes open circuit. Only cure is a new tank or a defap.

For a DW12 the regen temp is >450 deg. The soot will burn off without additive at >500.

Interestingly, the Eolys does not burn off. Additive residue is what ultimately blocks the dpf.

I caught a regen in progress in PP2k. Exhaust temperature seems to be about 450 degrees.

Indeed. You can monitor this in PP2k (the value is calculated, not an actual measurement). Mine's just ticked up to 82g. The only other one I've seen was an 02-plate 607 that was at 135g.

I can see you've done your homework too.

Had the motoring public, or even the population at large, been given an informed choice, would they have supported egr and dpf technology?

For: Reduction in Nox and particulate emissions.

Against: 15-20% more fuel consumed.

It seems the efficiency gains of common rail diesels have been almost exactly cancelled out by the inefficiencies of their emission control systems.
