Crappy plastic Samsung
Today I did something really embarrassing. I had my phone on my lap while driving and forgot about it, when I got out of the car the phone fell onto the pavement. Luckily I was in London and quickly found an o2 shop who said it would cost £140!!! Does anyone remember those old Nokia bricks? Indestructible. In the year I have had my Samsung Galaxy S4 the screen has been replaced 3 times. My Wife has got a iPhone 6 but a little pricey for me. They really don't make them like they did before.

I've never had a smartphone screen crack. Dropped my Galaxy S4 once, from hip-height on to the pavement, and it was fine (case was little scuffed though).
The little Nokia screens were robust because the screens weren't capacative touch-screens mounted on glass; they're just plastic with an LCD film behind it. As a result, you could read them in daylight - but then, the best content on a 3210 was the game "Snake". Nowadays, I could play Quake 3 on my phone if I wanted to - or watch streaming video from Netflix - or carry all the music I own around in my pocket, and listen to it on-the-go with stunning clarity. Progress!

Re: Crappy plastic Samsung
Thankfully ive never smashed my own phones screen, i keep in in a tyre thread sort of case which keeps it safe its an iphone 4s, my sister had an iphone 4 and i replaced the screen 4 times on it, the last time i did it was getting tricky, the screw threads were starting to strip, i dont think they are designed to be worked on so much.
But generally speaking with smart phones you can get the screen kit off ebay, that usually includes the small tools needed, youtube has endless amounts of vidoes showing how to change the screens on various phones, my sister brings me phones belonging to her friends all the time to change the screen, HTC, Samsungs, LGs they are all fairly easy to work on, although i must admit i still dont know how to use an android phone.

The problem is really size. As a phone it is just too big and can't fit in one hand, I have only ever had two "Smartphones" and my first one was the original iPhone, never had 1 Problem and dropped it so many times I cant even count and never had to have the screen replaced. A couple of months ago I had to inspect a shipment of the new Datsun Go, £4000 of of no radio, central locking, aicon, electric windows and has a zero score on the Euro Ncap + no Airbags. The car is built to a price and really feels like it, much like the S4
