So let me get this straight....

Peugeot use a 2.0 litre 16v diesel, beef it up to 140 bhp, make it comply with ridiculous new emission regulations and put it in a reasonably large and heavy car and the result is ' 63 mpg '

John, it looks like you have got yourself a really decent motor - even the same colour as the old 407....

Yeah, thanks, it seems like a very good car so far.
Lost the electric folding mirrors, but got side repeaters in the door mirrors.

As for the fuel consumption, we'll have a more accurate check with my wife having her normal commute next week.I went off the fuel gauge, mileage we did and how much we put in....starting tomorrow the car will get the same mileage and use as the 407 had for most of our ownership.

The colour of the 508 is a genuine black, the 407 was less of a black than this one...more like charcoal.

The guys I know at the dealers tell me there has never been a recall on the 508s and they rarely see them in for repair.

Interesting!

I really like the look of the early shape 508 estate, just the very limited options for a manual diesel version that puts me off. :(

You can always get a nice 407 with that engine for not much money these days.

first chance ive had to be on pc and comment on this, I quite like the interior although all those buttons on the steering wheel would just give me something to fiddle with, I see they've stayed with the offset handbrake, and still on the wrong side, but i do like the height of the tunnel. It has the same armrest setup?? is that right? And an electric boot opener, does it just pop or open fully when you press it?? Don't like the outside still..............seems a bit bland after the more radical 406/407

Yeah, lots of buttons on steering wheel which are radio/aircon/heater/cruise control.

The armrest has a button that when pressed pops up the rest to the left.
The boot pops up all the way when you press the electric switch.
There are some bits that stick out on the front bumper which keep getting caught on our front kerb :frown:

Noticed tonight that you can still open the boot from outside by pressing the "O" in Peugeot on the back of the car.

I really like the 508, ecspecially since the new facelift.

It's funny. The same engine is fitted to the MK4 Mondeo. I've driven the 508 and the Mondeo with the 2.0HDi (140) engine and the 508 is very sprightly and very good on fuel. The Mondeo is lazy, coarse and bloody poor on fuel!
God knows how ford managed to mess up such a good engine! It's the reason I ended up with the Ford Lynx 1.8.

Ask and you shall receive!

Flappy paddle semi-auto but I really like it, a nice free flowing egg-sauce, some blanking plates, fettling and a big hammer should return somewhere near the 250 BHP mark after remapping :cheesy:

Looks good in black to boot, there are a few estates on there but personally I'd go for the saloon.

Are the Pug's flappy paddles as bad as their automatics?

Let's clarify a few points:

Flappy Paddle = automatic
Semi-auto = automatic
Automatic = expensive, inefficient crap to avoid at all costs.

And let be the end of it.

My (and presumably Alex's) 407s are already putting out 180.

Are there two versions of the 140? A 140 was fitted to late 407s. I wonder if there's an earlier crappier one that Ford are still using?

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.
