The solar power installation is complete! It's just not turned on yet :? Unfortunately we still seem to be waiting for the useless twats at the electrickery co to come and fit another meter, and they're probably waiting on the Croatian government who still haven't bothered to sort out next year's rules and regs (why leave anything the same when you can f*ck with it constantly?) as well as how many will be allowed to connect next year (they must enjoy getting huge fines from the EU).

Still, Denis, our PV guy, will be coming in a couple of days to switch it on regardless. We won't get 2.5 times the tariff but we will enjoy the splendour of the electric meter running backwards

Excellent, knowing your luck the Gov have probably just decided to ban PV and you'll be made to remove the whole lot in the next 5 working days :P

...or else they'll bulldoze it flat with us inside

I was looking at some of the hoo-hah about the cost of energy in the UK yesterday and one of the things people were blaming is this feed-in tariff, whereby electric companies are made to pay 2-3 times the price for power generated by domestic PV systems. I guess I assumed it just came out of some big EU slush fund, rather than the cost being passed on to customers. I'm not sure whether or not to feel guilty :?

It's up and running! 8) 8) Both inverters are on line but obviously the single phase on the batteries is just charging them at the moment from the mains. They've been testing it out all afternoon and we've even been running off the batteries, not for long as they need charging. We were also sending power back into the grid! Not for long though, when Denis called me up for an overview it was generating a massive 50 watts which then dropped down to around 40 as we talked (it's getting dark here) and soon after that the inverter tripped out as it reached its lower threshold. Oh, and I'm going to have to keep an eye on the meter because things could get interesting if they come to read it and it's lower than last time. But that's not so likely this time of year.

Just now the control box on the single phase inverter says the batteries are charging at 0.8Kw and currently at 62% charge. Fully charged capacity is 10Kwh at 4.6kw constant load through the inverter, which is a about 2 hours run time, but I'll hopefully be able to kill off big loads like the washing machine so it'll run longer when we're not able to generate, at night or whatever.

Change-over on power failure is 1.5 seconds, change back is instant :?

Denis will return Wednesday to see how it's going and to set the system's IP up, so I'll be able to see what's going on from, well, anywhere :cheesy:

Why don't you charge up a load of battery floodlights during the day then shine them at the solar panels all night long?.......oh wait.

Hey, maybe you have a point there. If I get a load of flood lights, run them off the mains and shine them on the panels I'd be paying (can't be bothered to look it up, so) X pence per Kw for the light but the panels will be generating at 2 to 2.5X pence per Kw. Cool 8)

0.3Kw @ 95% charge.

Oh, and I just noticed there's a running total on the 3-phase inverter. Our total power generation to date is.... (ta-dah!) 0.074kWh 8)

This morning the range has changed to an optimistic MWh and is showing a resolute 0.000 :(

It's a right horrible muggy day today, looks like it'll tip down at any minute. Output presently is 257 watts, wow. I've been out looking at the meter, with the pc etc. 1 fridge-freezer, 2 proper freezers and the c/h pump going it was still slowly marching forward. So I shut down the pc, still moving forward very slowly. Unplugged the freezers, go look at the meters: is it moving? Where's the red bit? Oh there it is on the right there, moving towards the left. Hold on, right to left? Oh my god, it's running backwards  8)

Hi Honey, good news, we didn't use ANY electric today.

Bad news: We need to eat the entire contents of the freezer today.

I guess it's cloudy there too :(

213Kw, running total is 0.003MWh. Looks like it peaked at almost a watt earlier but it's got dark again outside.

Oh sh*t! Nah, I plugged it all back in, I just wanted to see the meter running backwards but was too impatient to wait for a sunny day. Apparently modern digital meters don't do that, so it's a good job everything is 50 years behind here in Absurdistan.
