Throttle does not respond at all (only sometimes)

While a fault in the Fuel Pressure Regulator could explain intermittent lack of power (which it does also have) surely it could
not explain the sudden complete loss of throttle response, which has happened to me 3 times, I think only when I have been using air conditioning tho...

It's a tricky one for sure!
The last fuel pressure regulator fault I had the engine would tickover but not rev.

I was just throwing another possibility into the equation.

Difficult one to fix when the fault is intermittent .....as always

You need a complete failure to find the fault or a bit of luck.

If the fault occurs with aircon working can you introduce the fault by working the aircon and study what happens?....Maybe there is an electrical fault.

That is exactly what it did.... you could be on to something perhaps?

This fault has been happening regularly in the last week..... So frustrating.
It happens with or without the air con on, so I don't think it's related to the air con in any way.

This could be my problem perhaps. I plugged in my PP2000 (without any previous experience) and it
shows up a number of faults, one or two in the BSi, but this one on the engine ECU:



It's the diesel pressure signal I am concerned with, but when I click on this fault within PP2000 it doesn't show any more info, just
comes straight back to the screen you see here. Any ideas?

I was thinking the same. All the problems I have had on my C5 were down to the pressure regulator so its a common source of faults but I have never had loss of throttle response - although there's always a first time.

I imagined that when you clicked on the fault "Diesel Pressure Signal" it would tell you what to check, but nothing......

I think Doggy might be your man, my only experience is of things changing when I didn't ask them to, feeling nervous the whole time it's connected and being relieved when it's over.

I suspect you should be able to look at live data but I'm not sure what that'll tell you over what you already know...

Normally I'd say: clear the faults because they're only intermittent, go for a drive, and see which ones come back.
However, I think it's a pretty safe bet that the diesel pressure thing is our culprit.
Best case scenario: duff diesel pressure sensor.

BTW your cooling fan(s) might not be working. Probably most noticeable as the air con being useless when travelling at low speed.

also I have just been reading somewhere else where someone had a similar problem to mine on a 2.0HDi 406,
turned out to be a DRV..... what and where is a DRV?

If it's the sensor for a 2002 2.0 Hdi I am a customer

Ah, I think it's the regulator that's attached to the HP pump, rather than the sensor, which sits on the common rail line.

...yes, as in the picture. There are some cheap secondhand ones on ebay, I bought a couple, but the filters are often clogged, as some come without filters you can grind the end of the tube off, making sure you get rid of all the swarf, I removed the filter on mine and its been fine since.
