Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
There is a mini roundabout near where i live, i normally come into it and cars on the left speed into it, i know they are supposed to give you right of way but a fully loaded lorry doing 60mph in a 30 zone isnt something you want to try teaching this rule to.

Ask yourself this: to whom are you indicating and why?Welly wrote:What about drivers who indicate too much?
Generally at junctions I hope to go and approach as if I'm not stopping, but secretly always expect to stop. Plan for success but prepare for failure.Welly wrote:What about the typical 'stand off' at Mini-roundabouts?

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
My missus goes mad at me for approaching roundabouts fast, I take an approach that I can carry on through or if I f*ck up I can still whip out onto the roundabout and kinda 'mingle in'
I did f*ck up not so long ago where I ran out into the 'outer' lane and stopped someone taking there left exit
if you're watching young lady in the Renner Clito I am sorry, I am the 'arsehole' in the grey Volvo

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
There's nothing worse than driving on the inside of a roundabout and someone pulls out alongside you!
That wasn't a dig at you Wellington Boots, it just happens to me on a regular basis.
When leaving for work early in the mornings I tend to 'straight line' roundabouts if nobody is around.
To be honest I always worry about getting done for it. I didn't realise it was all legal?
That said I haven't been leaving for work till about 10 to 8 lately. A far cry from the 5.30am I was doing this time last year.
Only having to drive 3 miles to work, it's destroying my car! I'm down to 24mpg on this tank full and the car keeps going into limp mode on high boost because all the vanes in the turbo are coked up in soot.
I'm back to working about 20miles away in February so I'm going to have to strip the turbo out and clean the vanes.
How do people manage to do just short journeys in diesels? After 3 months my car sounds rough as a bag on spanners, is drinking fuel like it's going out of fashion and keeps going into limp mode.

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
That's just it mate, modern dizzlers are NOT suited for door to door work and yet everyone buys them because they're "cheap on fuel"
I'd be really tempted to lay the car up and buy an old petrol shitter for £300 to do the work runs.

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
I have been tempted. The missus works a stones throw away from where I'm working but I work 8 till 4.30 and she works 10 till 6 so we can't even share lifts and use her KA.
I should have sorned my car 3 months ago and dry stored it and got myself an old E36 320i or something.
I could have got the bits done on my Mondeo myself then while it was in storage.
Actually, I was going to do it thinking about it. I think my missus stopped me by telling me "It's only a f***ing Mondeo."

Typical Woman, she'd have you crawling to work on your hands and knees if she could, I'd just go out and source another cheap car and bring it home as a nice surprise......WCPGW?Bailes1992 wrote: Actually, I was going to do it thinking about it. Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
The other option is to buy her a new car and then I can have her KA.

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
As our area is full of Driving Schools, I learnt years ago that the only way to approach any roundabout is quick enough to keep going, but slow enough to stop if you have to. All-road-standoffs are common, but having observed the quality of teaching, I am not that surprised.

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
Down this end of the country they have a penchant for double mini roundabouts at 4 way junctions.
This quite often leads to some interesting maneuvers by inexperienced tourists, my favorite being as below (in red, correct in green for completeness) (forgive the paint skills)
"The extension png is not allowed" grrr
"The extension gif is not allowed" GRRRRR
Fine have a massive great bitmap

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts
I encountered that "magic roundabout" near Swindon once. There are some things that, having emigrated, I'm glad that I'll almost certainly never have to deal with again...
