Looks to me like a blowtorch at one end and vacuum cleaner motor at the other, sucking hot air through it backwards.

I'm not sure if all the smoke is from the DPF or from the armature in the motor cooking.

We used to do a similar thing in motorcycle workshops with clogged two-stroke exhausts*. The flame is being drawn along the pipe burning crud which is being expelled by the motor. OK if you happen to have the kit around, and your neighbours don't mind the smoke!
*A large nozzle on the acetylene welding gun, then when crud catches fire, just feed oxygen. Amazing how much carbon you could get out of some of them.
