Remote central locking

Post by Ollie »

Hi there just joined the OC, I have a lovely 1999 D8 with a central locking issue. The remote central locking did work a few months ago then just stopped working. The mechanical side of it works ie I can lock the vehicle with the key in the doors. I have changed the batteries in the fob which is a two button style but it has made no difference. I bought a genuine key from eBay for 25 quid and I'm having trouble communicating to my BSI unit. I've tried about 4 different computers and they will not communicate. Will I need pp2000 to reprogram and code it to the car or am I missing something?? Thanks and waiting for replies!!

Hi, welcome to the club.

Just to confirm, was the key you got from eBay a 2nd hand one? I don't believe you can program a central locking key more than once..?? You should be able to re-sync your old key to the car using the method in your handbook 8)

If you have access to a multimeter thing, you can check the key fob battery, as it needs to be 2.8v or more to properly work.

I'm not an expert though...

HI & welcome aboard. 8)

As GM says, you can usually resync the original key.
I'm not completely sure, but I don't think D8's have a BSI, they have a specific central locking control module.
Sorry, I have no personal experience of D8 remote central locking, but it is likely you will need access to PP2000 if resyncing the original key doesn't work.
