BAStuds!!!

Post by DaiRees »

Well, I'd like to extend my deepest contempt and hatred for the spineless little prick who bumped the wife's Focus outside her work today then saw fit to piss off without leaving their details. So that's a new mirror and a repair to the bumper and wing? Yeah, thanks, thanks a lot ya tosser!

The school has CCTV but we don't think it covers the street where she parks, will check tomorrow. I'll also go for a spin up there to see if I can spot any domestic CCTV cameras.

Thats a bit unpleasant, the shite should have at least left a note in the window with contact details.

I see some dashcams are supposed to turn on when they detect a vibration but i guess that would need 12v all the time, would be handy for incidents like this

Ah crap :( I guess most of us have been there to some extent. Sadly I don't think you'll get access to CCTV as, unless someone's been murdered, the authorities don't care, and even if you did 10-1 the culprit doesn't have insurance.

Coulda been a courier van, or a lorry maybe. Sometimes they literally don't know they hit something as they can't feel it.

If it was a normal motorist then they are downright scum.

I don't think you'll get much joy with CCTV as you'd need to capture the incident and the reg number and fixed cams just don't have the range.

As for fixing the car I'd tart up what's left and leave it until you feel like coughing for the repair at some point. You should get a salvage wing mirror easily, you could even rattle the coloured infill on that and get a reasonable finish with lacquer.

I hate people who do this.
That's got to be at least £500's worth of damage right there.

Yeah, not holding out much hope for CCTV or anything really, she'll be asking the staff and parents at the school if they saw anything.

It's going to one of those smart repairers (friend of a friend) for an estimate on Saturday morning, so we'll see what he says, not sure if he'll be able to deal with the dent though, so if that's the case I'll trawl it round the local bodyshops. I've managed to superglue most of the mirror housing back together (just one small gap near the indicator) so it just needs a new cover, and they are cheap.

I wouldn't say "immaculate", it does show some signs of being the car that's done all the school and shopping runs for nearly 8 years. But it's a nice car, very low mileage, nice spec, and it's certainly in "good" condition, so it will be fixed by someone with a degree of competence.

'Er in doors is fuming tamping raging (has anyone ever heard that outside the Valleys  ?). I don't think I've ever seen her this angry about a car thing, she was calmer than this when her car got keyed! She's going to be like Miss Marple up there today, cross examining staff and parents alike lol! She was talking about getting a new car recently, but the conversation last night turned to "what's the f*cking point???!?!?"

I tend to agree. It will only get peppered in stone chips, keyed by yoofs and driven into by imbeciles. My 407 has quite a number of parking dings on the passenger side door.... caused by the future Mrs CJ resting her car's door on mine when she's getting into it with eleventy one thousand bags.

With regards to CCTV, it is always worth asking for. We managed to get hold of quite a bit just a while back. The Borough gave us copies for free! They also gave us a letter stating that the time stamp was accurate, which was useful.

Now this is strange. One of the wife's colleagues phoned today to tell us that she's seen a van that's regularly parked in that street that now has corresponding scuffing on one side complete with blue paint, she's recorded the number plate and has taken photographs of the damage which she's going to email to us later. Of course this is entirely circumstantial and, without proof, we can't act on it, but it's a hell of a coincidence!

My father in law (who's a retired ex-copper) says we should inform the police of the incident and of our suspicions about this other vehicle because they'll investigate it. I argue that the police wouldn't give half a flying poo about it. What do you guys reckon?

In other news, I've obtained a first quote for the wing/bumper repair at £130, not as bad as I feared. I've also attacked the area with a sponge and some T-Cut so it doesn't look nearly as bad now. If it wasn't for the dent I would actually consider a rattle can now.

They probavly won't even give a quarter of a flying poo, however, if you don't ask...

That does look a vast improvement, now all you need is a block of wood and a hammer...
