Car Insurance Renewal
So I got my renewal quote through, with an increase of £50. I had a look on Confused.com and found quite a few for less than £200. Phoned my insurer and asked them to price-match. Their response was that they no longer catered for premiums of less than £200. So I now have a cheaper premium, more bells and whistles, and a Brian toy on the way. Win-win all round.

Sounds like if they can't charge you a fortune and rip you off they don't want you. What insurance company was it?Rolebama wrote:Their response was that they no longer catered for premiums of less than £200.
Is that Brian the snail from Magic Roundabout?

Re: Car Insurance Renewal
I'm just trying to insure her Astra and tried these price comparison places, they all came up with quotes like £140.00 + but I found that by the time I'd 'tailored' the quote to include protected no claims, legal shiz and a Hire Car I was back up to over £200 and even more confused and annoyed than when I started.

You may have noted that "Tim at Prestige" won't quote less than £300 ( If you can catch him when he isn't talking to himself on a million forums)

Just renewed with Chris Knott for £364 up from £335 last year. I wish my salary went up 8.6%. They're all crooks.

Re: Car Insurance Renewal
I find the TV adverts quite amusing, they say 'car insurance from £180', mine are about £130 for the 406 and £140 for the C5 and that's from Brian - I mean confused.com. I have been using them since they started, they were the first one. Both policies are with Rias.

Steve_earwig: I was with SAGA, but every year the premium went up and I had to haggle to get it down, and the Brian toy is that robot thing they used on their TV ads. (Brian from Magic Roundabout is the guy who takes over my driving when I find I am being tailgated.)
I found that most of the insurers that advertize on TV, and the most expensive quotes, and FWIW, RIAS quoted me also with a less than £200 premium.
As to all the add-on bells and whistles, they are the jam on the bread and butter basic premium, and seems common to all companies. I have found from my own and other's experiences, that a lot of them are a waste of money, as there is always a 'reason' as to why we never get what we think we have paid for.

Re: Car Insurance Renewal
Im with admiral on a multicar policy, with both the 406 and 305.
Initially i had the red 305 insured with some unheard of cheapest option on a price comparison site insurer, they were fine for it to be insured as a classic it was cheap at around £230, the Blue automatic they wouldnt insure because it didnt meet their "criteria", but they never explained what this criteria was in any more detail. It was just as old, and even slower.
Its not hard to dislike them.

Re: Car Insurance Renewal
Renewal email for our run around Renault Twingo with Admiral popped in the inbox at the weekend. Followed by an email from one of the many comparison sites who helpfully remember when I checked them last year.
Comparison site: "Insure your Twingo from £174"
Admiral: £168.54
Last year it was £170.66. £180.20 in 2013
Can't complain at that.

Re: Car Insurance Renewal
I always compre meerkats and managed to get mine from £360 to £240 with Hastings direct with just £50 excess and 5 years NCB. They do basic, standard and premium and I went for standard as it ticks all the boxes I needed
Can't quite understand how the 2.2 is so much cheaper than my D8 90 but it helps pay for the extra fuel so I'm a happy bunny
