A/C condenser replacement - which o rings?! Pic inside*

Post by fattail95 »

Hi guys,

Replacing my air con condenser soon as my current one is past it, I found a genuine new old stock unit for £60 on t'bay which I thought was pretty good value. Question is, what seals/o rings do I need to replace? I've heard you *have* to replace these every time so I thought I'd check with you all. Here is my cars setup which should make things clearer:

I'm under the impression it's 18 and 19 that need changing, but I could be very wrong!

Thanks
Ben

I'd have said all of them but I think Welly's your man for this as he's had some experience...

I'm only replacing the condenser at the front, so only 2 pipes will be being disconnected. Why would I need to replace them all?

I'm not sure which seals you're disturbing so my suggestions was to replace everything you disturb (rather than to dismantle your car and replace absolutely everything) But, as I say, you're probably better off listening to someone that's actually done the job.

I have this tee shirt viewtopic.php?f=10&t=7606

It is 18 & 19.
I looked them up on ServiceBox using my VIN, ordered replacements, which turned out to be the wrong ones.
Having no choice, I refitted the old ones and as far as I know it's still working 5 years on, (jonsowman's dad has the car now).

They only cost coppers, so if you can, get both kinds - mine were a simple 'O' ring, the ones I got from Peugeot looked like two 'O' rings fused together i.e. if you cut them the cross-section would be figure-of-8 shaped.

18 + 19 is correct, they make the seal against the machined surface of the Condenser pipe connections. Most French cars use 'double' O-rings as Doggy describes.
