I can has new brake discs but this time I wanted to take some time before they're fitted to paint the hubs and hopefully the outer edges of the discs to stop them rusting.
I was thinking of Silver VHT rattle-canning but it's going to be hard masking up. What about greasing the disc braking surface so the overspray won't stick and then cleaning off with brake cleaner after the paint dries?
Suggestings welcomes.

Cover the whole disk in masking tape then cut the edges/parts to be sprayed off with a knife. They usually have an oily layer so clean first. VHT paint or BBQ paint should work...

I just spray the entire disc.
Any paint on the disc where it makes contact with the brake pad will come off anyway.
In fact pagid discs come from the factory entirely painted.

Thats what I did with my rear discs, primer, silver, lacquer, and they are still silver after 2 years - as Sam says the pads just rub the paint off where it matters...

I did this job last week before the new rear discs were fitted. You will need high temp primer and high temp paint. Just clean off the excess film of oil and mask the outer area of the disc.
