Oh a chainsaw!

I was going to say be careful and I googled "Chainsaw PPE" thinking about those kinda chain mesh sleeve things for your arms....

THEN I googled "chainsaw injuries" FFS if you have a weak stomach DON'T look

I'd take that nasty bastard thing and stash it where you can't ever find it.

I iz a regular* chainsaw user, but mostly just the leccy one. (Not so scary, no engine noise).
I've had a chain snap a couple of times and cursed myself for blunting it on the path /nails / mud etc. but no real dramas.

I did see an accident prevented from being serious by a pair of them anti-ballistic trousers - cut most of the way through the PPE, but didn't even nick the clothes he had on underneath, (which was just as well, cos otherwise it would have cut into his upper thigh).

Modern chainsaws are a lot safer, BTW

But an old one isn't  I think this one's from the late 60's, early 70's, I found a decoder for serial numbers but it's worn off, just like everything else on it, although I did notice on the fuel cap it saws "Mix thoroughly, a 1/4 pint of oil to every gallon of gas"

I had it here to investigate why the starter recoil was making a god awful squawking noise. Oh:

Not been cleaned out in a while I guess. I wanted to investigate because if anything wears out or breaks I've got damn all chance of getting spares for it. All cleaned, spring washed in petrol and oiled and all put back together with real grease. I was pleased I managed to start it on me tod earlier because it took both of us to get it going yesterday. Well, I had to try the pull start, didn't I? :cheesy:

Oh it's ok don't worry, they rang me earlier and I told them to fold the package in half and just post it through, I hope this helps :)

Nice work on the aircraft engine, all I've done today is shuffle interesting* contractual documents around.

Excellent idea that man.... Wouldn't be the first time.

It's my first engine removal on that particular type, no quick change unit here. It took both of us all day yesterday and a couple of hours this morning to get the prop and all the other gubbins off.

You do realise you can't just show a picture of an engine on a car forum and not tell us anything about it don't you?

Meanwhile - both strimmers (well, more brush cutters really) started ok. I thought I was going to have problems with the Echo but then I realised the ignition was turned off

My bro would approve. (He's as blind as a bat, but won't wear glasses).
Having said that, he wouldn't dream of using a chainsaw without a hand guard/chain brake, unless he had his safety sandals on.

No we do those in situ ;)
It's had to come out due to ingesting a foreign object which has knackered a couple of compressor blades.

Oooh, what's the deal when that happens? does the owner pay or is there some sort of insurance?

Unless you suck up something that clearly belongs to someone it's considered fair wear and tear, so owner pays
