It Happens :'(

Post by RayneR »

Long time no see folks!

Well came back with the worst thing that we couldn't imagine :(

http://s1284.photobucket.com/user/Rayne ... 20accident

See the pics, probably it didn't affected the engine and i will repair the car, but i have some doubts.

What is interchangeable with my pre multiplex car ?

What needs to be changed from what as been seen is the dashboard, driver airbag, bumper, bonet, bumper reforcer, thermo ventilator, superior and lower lane, air filter box, 1 headlight ( that i must reconstruct in order to have waht i had, pain in the a**) and probably the crankshaft oil deposit since when the time of the accident the car lost a lot of oil, because i have jumped over the footpath and then hit a public street light all of this after hitting another car.

Will a Thermo ventilator with 2 fans fit my one single fan setup? Will D8 dashboard fit my D9 ?
etc
Thank you

Hell, that looks nasty!

D8 dash will physically fit, but the wiring will be different. Stick to replacing like-for-like wherever possible.

Good luck with your restore, and glad the incident wasn't more severe!

I think I'd be removing whatever's left and starting again with a fresh car. When a car hits something hard like that then everything in or fixed to the car carries on moving and very often gets damaged as well. The oil leak could be a damaged drive shaft or a cracked gearbox/sump.

In the UK any car with chassis damage is scrapped and not fit for re-use, it makes sense because you will always struggle to 'align' the car after a hit like that making it un-roadworthy. A hit like this one right between the headlamps will see the sides of the car (the wings) want to come together (clap hands) and the damage is always major and very often affecting the suspension legs.

I know RayneR you have put a lot of work into the car but even if it was fixable would you be happy with the end result?, I know I wouldn't, especially knowing how hard it was hit.

Have to agree with welly. It's never going to be the same again.
I have no idea what you would have to pay for a replacement - in the UK a really tidy example is unlikely to cost more than 1500 € these days.

Thank you for the feedback guys, but well here in PT a car like this is about 3000€, and for starters it wont have the things and reliability mine have.

About the repairing service, the side wings only came just a little bit inside, the oil is most probably came from the cranckshaft it probably hit the floor in the second i drove over the footpath.

As costs is concern i have managed to get almost all the material except the bumper and fog lights for 550€ and also i dont know still what is damaged under the car and behind all the mess of radiators, but still very good price for all the other parts.

I also thought in buying a new car but hell it was a pain in the a** paying this one so i dont want to pass through this again and i love my baby 406  :cheesy:

Just some updating here to my case...

It had the gearbox and steering box broken, already found both with good price.

Well i have all the material needed and service it's almost done at the car! :P

It's only missing something that is the front grill EMBLEM, where i can buy one cheap with the proper size for the grill? I have bought one and it is smaller :( the grill emblem has 7,5CM(from the top claw to the tail) X 8CM (from bottom to top of head).

Thank you people.

Shame about that, very sad to see it happen. I'm off to Scotland next week and hope nothing like that happens to me. My car has done 235k miles but I have just done the cam belt and had a new windscreen and recent new tyres.

I think with a wallop like that its bound to have bent the chassis but you have a fairly comprehensive set of parts for the refurbishment of another one.

Thanks for the input, yes it bent just a little and about chassis work it's all done i have put a complete new chassis front because the right side was very damaged and there was no possible way to recover it and also it helped to align the car.

For now what's missing is the emblem :( bahh why the hell third party grills doesn't bring the chrome emblem, copyright infringement?

I bought it through the dealer. £8-10 or so. It was easiest that way :)
