The chainsaws sound pretty sweet, the smaller one started out nice and then made a weird scraping noise?

At that point the two were indistinguishable...... You should have seen the filter, I'm amazed that the car was still running. Next oil change will be in 3 months or so (it's no longer being used daily) and I'll pull the sump of and give the whole lot a good clean out.steve_earwig wrote:Was that oil or sludge?

Re: and today i have mostly been...
I'm not sure if that'll be an easy job these days, sumps seem to be sealed with mastic - a couple of years back I was watching the mechanic take the sump off a DV6 to get the remains of the dipstick out, once the bolts were out it took a lot of levering and the sump looked a bit mangled afterwards...
Incidentally, all this "old fuel goes bad" appears to be bollocks- Not only has the Homelite been running on fuel I mixed up for Max last summer but the 20" Stihl turned out to have half a tank which my dad probably put in there years ago (I can't imagine he'd have needed a chainsaw where he is now and it didn't even have a blade on it when I got it). I suggested to Max to change it but he gave it a go anyway and, after half a dozen pulls, off it went.
They both sounded more-or-less the same, it's just for some reason the audio on the second vid got seriously loud. That's on my phone which I've not taken many videos with so I'm not sure if it's some sort of screw up with it or I was thinking maybe I had my finger over the microphone for the first vid and took it off a second or two into the secondWelly wrote:The chainsaws sound pretty sweet, the smaller one started out nice and then made a weird scraping noise?

Five year old petrol in "it still burns" shocker
OllieNZ shame on you for having jelly oil, go sit in the corner and think about what you've done. I'm not sure 'flushing' would be wise in case something shifts and blocks up but maybe quite a few el-cheapo oil changes would be good over a few months.

Must be better than risking mangling your sump...

As you're all well aware the sump plug on the dv6 is recessed and it must leave a good half inch of shite in the bottom of the sump, so hassle it may be but removing it and sticking it in the parts washer at work should help.

Go wash your brain

Is this a DV6 we're talking about here? I only mentioned them because it's the only modern engine I've seen have the sump taken off. That is a rather crap design then. Hmm, what with their tendency to block the turbo's oil feed up and self-destruct I think sump off and engine flush is in order.OllieNZ wrote:As you're all well aware the sump plug on the dv6 is recessed and it must leave a good half inch of shite in the bottom of the sump, so hassle it may be but removing it and sticking it in the parts washer at work should help.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Bit of a grump: I'm way overloaded with work to the point where I'm not actually getting anything useful done, Clients are f*cking me around changing their minds every few hours, I've got new Enquiries up to my ears all with very short return dates that I don't even have time to look at but if I don't do them we'll run out of work in a few weeks and/or piss off important Clients and health wise I feel like a sack of sh*t. None of this is helping the 'reduction of alcohol mission of 2015' as if I don't go to bed pissed I'll be awake half the night worrying about all the work.
Urrrgh.

I can't really help with the workload but I think you'd be better off with sleeping pills than pickling your brains with alcohol.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Had my blood results explained this morning. All of it is almost perfect except the liver is 'slightly complaining' and highlights the lifestyle adjustment programme 2015.
Worst bit is the blood pressure's a 'concern' and they've given me 6 months to try to reduce this myself through exercise and healthy-being otherwise I will be put on medication. Fucksticks. So kick-up-the-arse No.2 is received and understood.
I'm toying with the idea of......wait......sorry......actual jogging
but HATE HATE the stereotypical joggerist in my Village who's typically an ultra-fit annoying bastard who runs because they love it so much and have an electronic record player velcro'd to their arm and a special 'runners warty bottle' to drink from. I'm not a fat hopeless case and in my yoof was pretty toned up but the thought of donning some sports wear and running around fills me with dread. What is a 44 year old who's been told to get fit supposed to wear? f*cked if I'm wearing Lycra shorts but trackie bottoms will be too hot?
Cycling results in instant death around my way so that's out. Early mornings are out as I get up early enough for work already, I suppose I could try late nights but that's after a meal, might not be nice. A running machine won't be used after 2 weeks either you have to actually go somewhere to be motivated.

Wear "normal" shorts thenWelly wrote:What is a 44 year old who's been told to get fit supposed to wear? f*cked if I'm wearing Lycra shorts but trackie bottoms will be too hot?

What about walking? I've taken to having a stroll up my local mountain pretty much every week (as those of you who know me on the Farce Book will testify) 2 hours, 5 miles, 1800ft climb, blows the cobwebs away and gets the ticker pumping. And you don't have to dress like a total tit for that

I used to cycle quite a bit and I've also considered running but I'm a social exercisist, if I don't have anyone to go with it just doesn't happen.
Re: and today i have mostly been...
This 44 year old trains at the gym 4 times a week, usually wear joggers and an old T-shirt but if I'm on a sweaty day like legs I do go with a training vest and some old swim shorts.
I do tend to train weights and not cardio as it bores me rigid!!! The cross trainers at my gym have TV's so I do a bit when there's something on worth watching.
I just use my local leisure centre so there aren't too many people in full lycra overload, there are however just enough young ladies in the stuff to keep me going back regularly

Re: and today i have mostly been...
I used to use the Gym between 19 and 22? years old and before that was well into Cycling / BMX. I've always been on the fitter side of normal I think but dependent on where/when you go then these Gyms can be full of wankers and pumped-up hero's. Not my scene. I've got a Chinning Bar at home but left it alone whilst doing the house up last year so should make an effort to do that again.
I need to do something that gets me breathless and gets the Heart pumping fast; I did kinda tongue-in-cheek suggest to the Doctor that I might wear it out or break it but he was having none of it.
I'll get there it's just a bit weird at the moment.
