HDI 110 Estate Modifications!

Here it is in all its glory. A lot of car for £900 really. FSH and one lady owner. (Probably why there was nothing left on the clutch when I got it ) Can you spot the elephant in the room? 8-)





Bit filthy after the snow and salty roads.

Now for the modifications

Simota closed filter to try liven up the noise of the engine. Still sounds standard just a bit more interesting if that makes sense. No crappy open cone filters there, don't want to loose out on any power. It follows the path of the original system, being more directly and a bit shorter. Yes I ran out of hose clips so i used the almighty cable ties. This modification cost me nothing as a already had all the bit from previous cars.


True yorkshireman showing through again, Free JVC speakers and an amp I had laying around. Having said that the standard Harmen sound system is pretty good.

Some £25 polish steel and We are on our way to less turbo lag and more top end.




Removed this scratty plastic undertray. Can you guess why?


A nice break from the terrible weather provided me with time for some little touches. Fly-eye treatment on the lights and a subtle tinted sunstrip. Heko wind deflectors finally fitted after some trouble with the electric windows.






I have removed the chrome trim from the bumpers too which I am going to plasti-dip.

Now for a tasty update, A 3mm thick hunk of sheet steel I have been working on and a nice delivery from postman pat. I think you can now see where I am going with this one...




Oh dear, the top mount bearings literally disintegrated upon removal, only the compression from the springs holding them together. I guess these need replacing...

I did love the ground clearance my 406's had though!

I'd remove that flyeye tint though! I tried it on my Mondeo and the headlights were useless!

That's a very smart 406, puts a lot of new cars to shame! Is a remap on the cards? 110's go well with a stage 1 from Steve @HDI Tuning he even sells unlocked pre-remapped ECU's on his website, so you can just swap them out whenever you need

I don't think the fly eye causes me any issues. Most streets are lit anyway and for those open roads I have 55w HID's in the main beam. I have no issues at all with the ground clearance even down dirt tracks.

I think the 110 is fast enough for what you need really, the exhaust mod gives you a noticeable gain, especially top end. I since opened up the air filter and I have not had a power loss, the intercooler manages the heat soak. Its got a subtle grunt and turbo whistle without being in your face. A re-map would be nice but I have a Shogun rebuild to keep me busy and the 2.8td will be tuned. 40% power gain minimum.

Considering doing the wheels black, wouldn't mind someone photoshopping them for me.

Personally I think it looks better with the wheels standard, especially with the body colour.

BTW how do you find the Apex springs? thinking of fitting some to the Megane as the standard set up is stupidly high with a good amount of roll through the bends at any speed. There is about an 80mm gap between the arch and the tyre so even a 30mm drop wont make it look lowered but I really don't want to lose much in the way of comfort.

Yeh I might stick to silver, although they are looking a bit tatty at the moment. Thanks for the help though.

The Apex springs are very good, can't fault them. Had them on 2 cars now. They are noticeably firmer but by no means hard. Much reduced body roll. Actually better over speed bumps than the standard springs.

Thanks Rob, I'll keep them in mind. My better half rang me this morning to say one of her front springs has let go so I've had to dip into my car stuff pot ordering springs for that so it will have to wait a month

Don't suppose you could get some close-up's of the bumper/door trim? Something I'd be interested in doing in future if my chrome deteriorates.

Hi Rob, your looks nice ( not keen on the headlights though, sorry..!! ) and I would like an undertray similar to yours.

Can you tell me what size the sheet is, and what anchor points did you use to secure it? I'm thinking this will be excellent to keep the crap out, and easily undone for when I drop a nut/spanner/arm down the back of the engine...

Can't remember for sure. 900mm by 600mm I think? I simply used the square holes already available on the end of the subframe and the front cross member. I put a nut and bolt through each hole on the car first, did them up nice and tight. Then once the sheet metal is slid over the bolts you can secure it with nuts, without the bolts spinning round.
