Who's Still About & What's Going On?

Post by waue1978 »

Hello all

Received a message in my email through here from somebody asking about trims, so thought I'd look in & see what's been going on. Are the regulars still floating around?

My last post was when I was trying to clear the shed out ready for our impending (but constantly delayed) house move. Ended up binning a fair bit of it. Slightly annoying as I remmeber struggling to get some of the bits for my 406 when I had it, but no point keeping hold as I really can't see me getting another one unless I pick one up as a nostalgic potential classic in a few years!

Not sure if I'm considered a regular but I check the forum daily and do my best to help when I can! It's a great bunch here with so much knowledge, I've learned so much about the car and have now done many mods to mine which a few years back seemed well out of my reach, so I do my best to give a bit back to the community :)

Busy, busy, busy mostly.

Regularly working 6 days a week now & when I'm not working I'm having to do all the domestic chores as both myself & the wife have had to take 2nd jobs to try to help pay for the new house (if we ever move into it).

Been driving on agency most weekends delivering crisps & bog roll to Waitrose stores.

Zafira still going strong too (& finally over 70k), but just as well as won't be in a position to replace it for a long while.

I see you have another 2.2 estate on the go now Kelv. Looks quite tidy too.

Yeah, its not bad - it was cheaper to get this one ( FSH, 130K ) than to fix the old one.....

It'll need a clutch/DMF soon, so I'm just getting the parts together over the next month or so before I can get it all fitted. Its expensive but I like the car, and once its done it will hopefully last a while longer.

I have also moved branches, still at Travis Perkins but I my new branch is 7 mins walk away... :cheesy: and I only do local deliveries :cheesy: and more overtime :cheesy: - it was a gift-horse really.

Is agency work busy now that employers want the CPC card?

I'm pretty much guaranteed work every Saturday now at the place that I usually go to (I don't think any of their full-time staff work Saturdays), but being a manager at my regular job I see the other side of it the rest of the week & to be honest we're not overly pushed for getting drivers when we need them.

Still seeing a lot of press about a massive driver shortage, but most companies & agencies are putting their own guys through the driver cpcs anyway. All that really happened when it came about is that a lot of old timers (who only had a year or 2 left to work anyway) just decided they couldn't be bothered with it. I think it hit 7.5t drivers hardest as previously anybody who had that entitlement could have easily got driving work, but now it's only people that had already been driving & did the cpc that can actually do it. I've a friend who's just been laid off from a manufacturing job & last time he was out of work he got some work driving - now his options are just that bit more limited.

Not sure to be honest Eric. Where Sunday is now pretty much my only day off work it ends up being either a day of sorting rooms out ready for the move or my chill out day with Jack.
What weekend is it?

Still here... Occasionally at any rate. Doesn't help the fact that I don't own a 406 any more.

Pugfest is on the 12th July - at least that's when we are going.

Might be able to make it then.

Latest communicatons we've had about our house is that the projected handover is at the end of June, so might be in there by 12th July.

Be prepared for solicitors to sod about so they can generate more paperwork and charge you accordingly (I sold a house to my dad, that certainly was an eye opener as to which problems arose due to the purchaser, haha, and which were due to the solicitors being arseholes...)

Hi Stu, yeah I'm still about although a bit too busy/apathetic to post much. Still have the 406 but it's getting very little use and not been on the road since, erm, March  Although I did wash it t'other day as the cats managed to bring down the dust sheet I have above it and shower it in old straw/dust/birdshit :frown:
