Facepalm
Somebody at my work decided to change the shape of my Coupe today.
My driver's side front wing now has a big dent in it with a lot of paint missing, and there's a big crack in the front bumper.
She left a note, which is a first for me, but I haven't spoken to her yet - I'm trying to find a scarlet Coupe being broken, anywhere, so far without luck - so I know fine this will end up going through insurance and my car will be written off. Unless I can somehow convince them that the £1000+ I've spent THIS YEAR ALONE on the car makes it in some way more valuable than market rates (new shocks, springs, suspension strut mounts, new clutch kit and thrust bearing, new brake discs, pads, calipers, handbrake shoes, brake lines, handbrake cables, brake servo, plus labour costs).
Not bloody likely though.

Re: Facepalm
Oh no, there seems to be a bit of a spate of Coupe related dings at the moment.....
Has Ade got anything available?
Speak to the lady too, she may want to keep the insurance company in the dark and settle for a cash settlement if you get a price from Ade/breakers etc.
I hope this won't be the final nail in the coffin for your Coupe

Re: Facepalm
Very sorry to hear that
,
It might be wrong of me to point this out but you should have the option of keeping the car & having less money off them
or to put it another way you buy it back off them using some of the settlement money
.
Then you can repair the car yourself, another point for you to consider next time you insure your car is my insurers
Adrian Flux do agreed value policy's for an extra £35 on your premium. So take me for example I'm 43 my car is agreed @
£2500 & it cost's me £195 a year fully comp with a £100 excess + £35 for the agreed value so £230 in all a year which I think
is very good value, just trying to help.
B.T.W have you tried Adrian the couple breaker yet

Apparently he has scarlet wings for £35 a pop. I've already PM'd him to ask about a wing and a front bumper. If I can get the parts in the right colour for cheap enough, this might work out...
EDIT: ... depending on how easy it is to remove and refit bumpers and wings ...

I think there's a how to for removing a wing on a saloon, I doubt a coupe is much different. You may want to soak everything in WD first. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12779&p=113380&hilit=wing#p113380
Really sorry to hear your car's been mauled. Good that she left a note and is obviously sorry, could be worse, could be a hell of a lot better - tell her next time to ram a BMW or similar, there's too many of them anyway.
I do hope the insurers play ball, wonder if it'd be worth a prospective call to them before you claim, test the water kind of style.

Not sure how much this will help but there's bugger all else I can do from here. Obviously, substitute "grovel around on the ground freezing your arse off" for things like "place the vehicle on a lift"

1. Removing
Place the vehicle on a lift.

Remove :
The mountings (1 )

Re: Facepalm
Sorry to hear about the damage to your car, Graeme after all the effort you've put into it.
(I have a huge crease in mine over the passenger side rear wheel arch, which I didn't spot until several days after being miffed at seeing a transit van parked too close to it at work. Nobody owned up and no CCTV coverage that helped so I kinda know how you feel).
I hope you get it resolved without too much grief.
In some circles that would be a hanging offence, Mr Wardrobe.

Re: Facepalm
That's some bad sh*t there Landy but you could end up doing alright out of it; typically they'd write it off (they may not though of course) and then you agree a settlement to keep the car and get cash monies your way to do the repairs. The repair work could be done quite cheaply with the right bits.
I think it goes something like:
They could give you £1,000.00 and they take the car away and have the liability of storing & disposing of it....or....give you £500.00 and close the case. Works well all round. Might end up on the CAT D register though? you'd have to ask the insurers about that, wouldn't bother me though if I was keeping the car.

Re: Facepalm
AAAAAAAAAARGH.
So. I have ordered a wing and headlamp from Adrian, £70 delivered.
I went to a body shop today as well and got a quote to repair the existing bumper and fit the replacement wing and headlamp - they're talking £345 + VAT. It was booked in for Wednesday morning.
But then - the woman called in her insurance and decided to claim the repairs to my car through her policy. Great. So now I've had to cancel the bodyshop while I wait for one of their assessors to come out to my car and assess its value and assess the damage. If THEIR report says the cost to repair exceeds 50% of what they say the car's worth, it's a "total loss".
AND, I can't even get it repaired and bill the work back to them - they will only pay out for work performed by their preferred company, allegedly to "ensure the standard of the repair work done."
I'm UBER pissed off now.
£345 + VAT = £414, plus the cost of the wing and headlamp from Ade = £484. So if my car is valued at less than £968 then it's written off. I have no idea if her insurer (Churchill) will allow me to buy my car back at salvage value or not. If not, then it's the end of the road for my Coupe whether I want it to be or not.
And I have to wait 24 - 48 *working hours* for their assessor to call. When they do show up, my job will be to try and convince them that the £900+ I spent on a new clutch and brake servo, plus the hundreds I spent on new brake discs, calipers, shoes, lines, etc. back in March, mean that the car is worth £1000 or more. It won't mean a f*cking thing because they work based on the market value. Which, being a 13-year-old Peugeot in the UK, is the square root of f*ck all.
So annoyed.

Arse
I suspect it'll come down to their value of the car and if they're prepared to sell it back to you. I managed to get an intendant valuation done on a Mk2 Ashtray which punched the pay out up quite a bit, not sure if they still do that though.
