I generally use this oil in my HDI 110. Usual price £18 in the auto section of Proper Job, a local small chain.
I noticed today, though, that Halfords have their sale on.......

My usual oil says on the pic.... 'GM dexos worldwide'....
Am I OK to buy one of those 5W30 £12 oils..?

Re: Engine Oil
You want to get a trade card!
I bought these today. One for the Focus and one for the Astra for £11 each! That's standard price, no special offers.
Focus takes 3.8 litres and the Astra takes 4.25 litres. Astra isn't fussy so I will use the left overs from the Focus in the Astra.

Any of those oils would be absolutely fine in the HDi. They really aren't fussy. Same goes with XUD's. As long as the first number is a 0w, 5w or 10w and the second number is a 30 or a 40 then you won't have any issues. The figure to be most concerned about is the HTHS value which is the figure that tells you how much pressure an oil can take before it breaks down. I generally used to look at the ACEA specification and get the cheapest oil in factors for my HDi and changed it every 6 months/6,000miles.
For shorter drives where the engine doesn't really get up to temperature you want to be using a thinner oil when cold. An oil starting with 5w or even a 0w
If you are doing lots of motorway miles then you could quite happily use a 10w40 semi synthetic oil.
