Not 406 (VW problem)

Post by scoopeydiesel »

A good friend of mine has a problem with a 2010 VW Sharan as follows: I have a Volkswagen Sharan diesel 1.8tdi year 2010 (Early).
Occasionally the battery is completely flat in the morning but the problem is getting worse of late.
I have measured a current drain of approx. 1 amp with a current meter when the car is switched off, all doors closed lights off etc. ( the car can be off for 2 or 3 hours)
this is a constant drain.
I have tried the following but there is still a 1 amp current drain
1) All interior lights and glove compartment lights are working and switched off and doors closed
2) Disconnected the alternator and starter motor
3) Pulled out every fuse one at a time in the fuse box under the steering wheel
4) Disconnected the 4 door harness by removing the connectors at the doors

In the fuse box beside the battery I located the current drain going to the black cable on the 2nd fuse. This is a 110amp fuse. When I disconnect this fuse the dash is dead no ignition or lights etc.
Is it possible to get a wiring diagram or can anybody help me where to check next.

I hope this is ok to put up as it's not 406 :? Thanks.

As far as I know the rear brake lights on these cars are LED as one night I was behind and a few of the small bulbs that make up the brake light were gone.

With a 110 amp fuse I would think it supplies either the glow plugs or aux heater (if it has one).

What's this? a VW with difficult problems? that's unheard* of :supafrisk:

Lozz's suggestion sounds a good place to start.

Thankfully I don't own a VW and I never will. He may have it sorted, thinks it may be the heater associated with the air con as when it was disconnected the current draw stopped. If not I will be back for more advice. Thanks for the moment :cheesy:

The sharran is not a bad motor actually. :)

They're one of the group of 7 seaters mpv. That actually drive like a car and not a big lump of 'Lard.
