Snow chaos in Kettering 27.04.16

Post by Welly »

Had* to visit Kettering after work last night, the sky's went a horrible dark grey and lightening started, it was about 18:30.

Within 10 minutes the temp dropped from 7 to 2 deg's and there was a huge snow/hail storm with at least 2 to 3" of what can only be described as miniature snow balls on the ground; these quickly compacted down and turned to smooth ice  going down hill at 40mph I merely 'covered' the brake and the ABS kicked in :o we were fine but we saw 4 accidents within half a mile it was like something out of a film, weird.

I've never driven where the conditions changed so quickly.

We had snow down here a couple of days this week, it didn't half come down, probably more than we had in the winter, didn't last long though.

Apparently there was exactly the same sort of snow up in Reka (where my house is) at 7pm yesterday. It's not even that much higher than here but all we got was heavy rain. It was nice and warm a couple of weeks back but it feels like we've dropped back into winter. There was even frost on Monday night, I had to cover the toms.

We've also run out of wood so I've started sawing up the pallets the last lot came in :(

Driving back from Bournemouth on Tuesday morning and as I drove through Swindon it started bucketing it down with snow for about 10 mins.

Weather was a bit extreme yesterday evening, drove through a fair impression of a blizzard between Cambridge and Huntingdon around 9pm, snow stopped but a continuous trail of slush between everyone's wheel tracks as a I neared home, then all my doors frozen shut this morning.

Among the mind-numbingly boring statistics delivered at our last environmental meeting, I discovered we disposed of 75 tonnes of waste wood last year.
I immediately launched a personal initiative to reduce this shameful total.
