Thought I'd introduce myself as I'm sure I'll be asking for help keeping my daily driver on the road in the near future.
I'm a pommy living in Perth Western Australia and thought you're forum would be the most informed due to the sheer volume of 406's there. They’re a very rare sight over here, in fact in the 12 years I've been here mine is the first one I've seen.
I was chasing a cheap daily wagon / estate and came across this beauty on Gumtree. A 2001 406 2.0 HDI station wagon automatic in white. And barely run in at 315,000 kms, so just shy of 200k miles.
It's in exceptional condition with one owner using it for long steady country road driving. Fully stamped service history from the dealer and a specialist, and a folder full of receipts.
I would have preferred a manual, but that said it was a very relaxing drive to work today on the freeway for my 100km round trip commute.

Welcome to the forum Jez, you have probably the best car Peugeot ever made - except perhaps the 'auto' bit. 406 ownership is dropping fast now which is a shame but I am sure you will find most of what you need to know on here.

Yes unfortunately auto seems to be the default choice for new car buyers over here, probably due to the long straight dull road networks. I do miss a challenging B road!
I wish I still had some of those cars Doggy. Ran out of characters in the signature block as I'd like to have put some comments about their quirks.
Current fleet is the Landcruiser, Blackbird and Pug406. I'm actively looking for a 205 GTI but they're fetching silly money over here and rare as hens teeth.
Good mate of mine, a diesel mechanic who lives out bush drives a Pug 504 as his daily and an 80's MAN 4x4 truck for recovering motorists stranded in the Great Central Desert. Similar to the one below.

He used to drive ex Army Bedford 4 tonners converted into buses for an over-lander travel company in the 90's until the African and Middle East routes became too dangerous. He holds the old Peugeot's in very high regard due to what he saw them being put through in these countries, very little maintenance, massively overloaded but went on and on. He rates those old 505 diesels as the most reliable car ever built. More so than the Merc 123's that also did very well out there.
