Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
Retrofitting cruise control to 2003 Peugeot 406, 2.0 HDI 90, Siemens ECU/system, RHY DW10TD engine, saloon, manual gearbox.
I have fitted the stalk, but Pug dealer say it cannot be activated. So I guess it can't be done.
The Siemens ECU newer had this function if I understood the Pug technician correctly. My 406 has only one switch as well - without the possibility to fit an extra on the clutch pedal required.
Just wanted to check if I got something wrong. Many Thanks.

Re: Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
Unfortunately he's probably right.
IF I remember correctly, (and it's a big if with my memory), Peugeot never sold an HDi 90 406 with cruise control at least in the UK.
Seem to recall a few other owners trying to do the same over the years, I think without success.

I have the same 2003 Siemens 90 406 and I have got cruise control working. There should be a switch on the clutch pedal wired up from factory. You need to add an extra switch to the brake pedal bracket (need switch plus the clip to go to the pedal) and connect to the wire which should be hidden behind some tape above the pedal - first see if you have this wire. Once that is connected and stalk is fitted, if I remember there are 2 or 3 settings to enable through pp2000.

That's weird, usually there is neither wiring nor options in PP2K, it's been looked into many times and deemed impossible. Maybe PSA relented towards the end of production

Or they 'rationalised' wiring looms, BSI and so on.
Good result.

Re: Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
ruwds - that is interesting. The steps you have taken is exactly what I have been told to do by the Peugeot dealer. And others have made it work to. So I got all the parts I needed, like fitting the stalk and got the switch for the pedal. But I found no place to put it. Nor could I find any wiring or connector. And to make things even worse, the ECU did not have this possibilities in its software.
My Pug dealer said that by the end of production of the 406, Peugeot threw in all the option they had. So it might be that some 2003 models did have this possibilities. I am not sure I will be able to get a cruise control working on my car.
Pity - as I really would like have it.
ruwds, I thank you for the information.

Re: Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
hi, reading your first post again, which pedal did you look to fit the extra switch? This switch needs to go on the brake pedal next to the brake light switch. I have attached some photos. The wire for the extra switch was folded and hidden in silver tape above the brake pedal on mine. If it helps mine is a Sept 2003 reg. SID 801 Ecu. Are you located around London? if so can help out.MyPug wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 4:50 pm ruwds - that is interesting. Thank you ruwds for the pictures and additional info.
Included 2 pictures of the switch I have on my 406.
Crap pictures, but I hope you can make sense of them.

Re: Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
You have the standard switches fitted to pretty much all 406s - your white switch has a space next to it for a red switch to fit into...
You may* find a switch taped up under the dashboard - it's not obvious unless you have a proper root around.
If you have this extra red switch then you would need the ribbed plastic washer to hold this switch onto the pedal, a cruise control stalk and access to PP2K.
If there is no extra red switch then sadly it seems it may not be possible to add cruise control.
( I rarely used it anyway... )

Re: Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
I wouldn't be entirely surprised if there was no position for the switch, or the wiring (mine didn't have it). I suspect a position could be fabricobbled (sadly you can't use a relay as they have to work one slightly before the other), wiring could be done (I dun it) but I'd have thought the biggest roadblock would be the function in PP, there ain't no way you'll get around that without another ecu/bsi combo.
I use cruise lots but the roads aint so crowded here.

Re: Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
Thanks ruwds - much appreciated.
Mine is also SID 801A.
Looking at the pictures there seems to be a difference between the brake pedal bracket between our cars.
It looks like mine is missing some metal or extra bracket.
I have yet to find any wiring, not that I made a good job looking for it. I'll do some more digging later.

Re: Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
I ordered OBDLink SX from Gendan (gendan.co.uk - Product Code: OBDLINKSX) so I can connect and poke around in PP2K for myself and se if there is a menu present for the cruise control.
Looking at ruwds pictures there definitely is a menu for it. So kudos to ruwds for posting them.
I am not trusting what I was told by the Peugeot dealer that there is non.
First I gonna find that wire. If I find one, then it's heading in the right direction.

Re: Retrofitting cruise control 2003 Peugeot 406
New Information; my car has what is called COM 2000 and that means all the necessary wiring is already in place and since I have mounted the stalk, all I need to do is activate it in PP2K to make it present for the system.
I'm sure someone on this forum can explained what COM 2000 is.

It's mux steering column switches https://www.406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17391
Obviously my D9 had com2000 (it's a RPO9001, mid 2001-ish onwards thing) but it had no wiring for the additional brake switch.

Thank you steve_earwig, great post.
So if I understand this correctly - there is no extra cable to the brake pedal. Just the one.
