Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

It sounds like some kind of capacitor is not holding charge to hold the pin number in memory. I had problems last week with my D8 not starting due to a duff fuel stop solenoid. James gave me some advice about bypassing the whole keypad malarky and connecting the solenoid to an ignition feed. In my opinion the keypad is more trouble than it's worth. On my keypad, both the red and green LEDs were constantly on.

It might be worth checking that the battery is fully charged, but even still once the pin number is stored, and you have the confirmation beeps, it shouldn't drop out of memory.

Thanks Maglite and James :D
Its a petrol 2ltr turbo. I am assuming you disconnect with the engine running? I take it this disables the immobiliser. Do you think it is a dodgy imob or keypad?
