Poor heating system performance!!! All steamed up!!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Poor heating system performance!!! All steamed up!!!

Post by diesel-dog »

When carrying rained soaked passengers, I have real difficulty on demisting the screen! Full pelt to the screen results in only the lower half clearing! I have noticed that if i move the slider (which is very stiff) over to recirculate air, the blower seems to have moor oomph! but in recirc mode is soon steams up anyway!! Anyone have any ideas? Somedays I wish I had aircon rather than the sunroof!

Incidently its a d8 with all manual controls and no air con/climate control system.

The recirc will be useless for demisting, as your only moving condensation around the car, and not pulling in fresh air. I've never had a 406 without aircon, so can't comment on the performance of the demister. If it is poor and never clears the screen properly, you could have a leaking heater matrix. We had this go on a 306, and on that, it's a dashboard out job.

It sounds like something's restricting the incoming air. Is the pollen filter clogged, or has crud/leaves fallen down the tube beneath it?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I have checked for crud, leaves etc, but all is clear. Would my model have a polen filter, if so where would I find it?

Thanks

It's behind the bit of black plastic that sits between the bottom of the windscreen and the bonnet on the passenger side. All the air entering the cabin goes through it. It may be a good idea to shove a vacuum cleaner pipe down the hole under the filter

Thanks for the tip, I will give that a go in the morning. It would explain why the blower seems more efficient when on recirc-being that the air is not passing through a possible blockage.

Cheers
