My steering seems to pull to the left sometimes. Not strongly, but quickly and it seems like I'm moving more to the left than I should be with the steering wheel where it it. It's as if I've just hit a small oil patch or something... It sometimes happens under braking and when going over bumps. Been getting worse for the last few times I've driven it.
My MOT warning about 6 months ago was something about a 'swivel' joint causing excessive steering play (although the tiniest steering wheel movement has an effect for me)... Could this be the cause of the problem? WTF is a swivel joint and how much am I going to have to sell to get the parts needed to fix it? (Please god let it be something I can do myself - I'm not joking about having to sell stuff!)
Could it be something perishable like a rubber "thing" between the wheels and the steering rack just decided to wear on me? I honestly have no clue whatsoever about steering

i think they are refering to the steering rod, about £20 from ECP, you could fit it yourself, but im sure you need a special spanner, and you will need to get the wheel alignment reset afterwards

Hmm. I really don't want to go replacing something that doesn't need replacing - I'm really skint. How can I diagnose what's actually wrong? Take the wheels and linings off and start yanking at things looking for something loose?
