hello all!!! new member here.
my wife has an n reg 406 glx 2.0 16v
the cam belt snapped recently (normally i change the belt when i get cars but as its a bastard to get at and the car had done 140'000 miles i thought somethin else would break first. but just to spite me it broke.
the pistons are wholed the valves bent and some snapped, i have found a 2.0 16v in a t reg 1998 coupe, i need to know as it appears the same as my current engine is it the same as mine. mine has a tu series engine whats the difference between that and the eu externally so i can tell.
cheers all
john,
ps. as you can see by my user id i am usually a vauxhall man but i bought my wife a pug as it was fun to drive without fiddling and wouldn't rust as bad as she NEVER washes her cars
which engine is it???

for starters your engine is not a tu, tu engines are the pug small engines eg 1l>1.6l including the 1.6l 16v 106 gti/saxo vts engine.
your engine is the XU10J4R (AKA RFV) this is found in the 306 xsi post 1996, xantias post 1996, and 406's post 1996, around 1999 they switched to the EW series of engines an ew engine will fit physically in your car but will need quite a few mods regarding the wiring which i could not tell you since i have never touched an ew
pugs also have an engine code near the oil filter, if you look near there your engine will have a code stamped in it this will be RFV it can be very faint and hard to see but it will be there. if the other engine is the same code your cooking with gas

Andy
