I have been watching my eggsauce belching out some rather unfriendly polution whilst accelerating with gusto! not too bad I must say, just a bit more than previous.
I surmised that if I disconnected (and temporarily blanked) the Vacuum line at the EGR diaphram (listen to me eh!) then the valve will stay closed? and no recirculation will take place.
Why is it that when the EGR is faulty then the car will smoke?
I thought if my experiment reduced the amount of smoke then it would indicate the EGR is at fault.
I say chaps, how do I isolate my EGR easily and safely?

Rather spiffing answer there old chap!
My dear Puggy I take *full* use of the turbo in every gear and travel at highly inappropriate speeds my dear fello.
One is lucky enough to have a very spiffing B road to travel to one's place of work, along which I cane the little blighter to within an inch of it's clattery, knocking, ticking, whirring life.
I also live shockingly close to a rather fetching By-Pass with none of those monsterous Speed Cameras. Here I drive with gusto and regularly see the speedo nudging 120MPH at least twice in one's week.
I take it, therefore, that one's eggsauce pipe is very clear.
I have realised that if the EGR fails it will screw up the airflow meter reading and over-fuel hence the smoke, what! what!
One does not want one's K light illuminating on one's instrument binacle as this would be most frustrating.
