I had mine re-mapped there, Jamie i think his name was, it won't blow up but you might get some dreaded clutch slip in 4th and 5th you need to have a bit of mechanical sympathy with it as the torque goes up quite considerably most noticable on hills etcmaglite wrote:I've just finished changing the oil and filters in my d9.
I went for:
Got that from GSF for £18.50 - 5 litres (which is nice because I have 0.5 left for topping up)
Original Oil filter - Got that from Ebay for £6 including postage
K&N 33-2539 - Got that from Ebay too for £40 including postage
I have given into temptation and booked the car in at this place for a re-map.
When I spoke to them, they said, they will re-map the car, I then take it for a spin. If I'm happy with the re-map, they will provide the original map on CD for me and leave the new map on for £190. These guys are based in Hinckley so quite near to me. I will post some more info once all is done. With the oil and filters changed, the car seems nice a smooth - I just hope it won't blow up after the re-map.
which oil do you use

It is generally spoken in the engine oil world that if your car has been running on mineral oils then it is not that good to suddenly change to fully synthetic.TooT wrote:Help, Nothing about V6 oil in this thread![]()
What shall i get fully or semi synthetic oil?
Fully syn oil tends to go around 'cleaning up' deposits in your engine that would otherwise just sit there. If you can't be sure what oil has been used in the past and your engine is 'up' on the miles then I would use a good quality 10w/40 Semi Syn (like Silkolene XTR) I get mine by carrier from a place in Pollington East Yorks.
I'll let you have their details if you want.

Well here you are then my friend!TooT wrote:Yes please Welton, that would be great.
East Yorks is only down a bit from me. If they have a shop i could bob in
Ring and ask for Tom, and get him to confirm the best oil for you based on your model and your driving etc.
Notice, the XTR 10w/40 oil I've used for the last 5 years is under thier 'Fast Road' products

Well thanks Wes, I shall probably sing the praises of Silkolene until I'm a very old manwes1001 wrote:![]()
I went with the XTR on your recommendation Welly and seems just as good as the Total i was using - ta for that

If you read up on Silkolene's history there's really no better oil IMO.

ive used castrol edge 0W/40 fully synthetic for that last 2 oil changes and i can safely say it runs soo much better with it than the 10W40 magnatec i used when i first bought it, i also get better fuel economy too, plus i get 4 litres for £20

bit of a grey area really, as its such an old engine thin oils wont do it much good, a good compromise i should think would be 15W40 castrol magnatecdarrenwall wrote:on the topic of oil , ill be changing it in my Mi16 this weekend and i was hoping someone could recommend a good oil. it a 15 year old engine with 156k on it and i drive it hard , is it worth putting semi synthetic in her or should i stick to something like castrol magnatec ? in my 6 i used to use cheap stuff £6 for 5 litres and i never had any probs with it
