AW crap, tried starting there now again and the enginw took a good few turns before she fired to life.
The 'k' light was on while the car was attempting to start, but went out as soon as it was running. is this normal?

Any other notions what could be causing this? Air leak in the inlet manifold somewhere?

unplugging the lambda will make bugger all difference as its ignored by your engine management untill you have a coolant temp of 80c
did you replace the coolant sensor?

Changed the coolant sensore for a brand new one from pug.

And also 'borrowed' (which i didnt ask for and have no intention of giving back :) ) 2 coolant sensors and an air sensor from the scrappy. Non of the coolant sensors made any difference, but i havn't had a chance to try this air sensor (map or maf i canny mind what u call it).

I've also change the fuel filter

Checked fuel lines from tank right up to the engine... no splits anywhere

Checked and cleaned the 3 earths i could find in the engine bay... 2 on the front of the block and one behind the pass side headlight.

SO...... what next? Inlet manifold and throttle body gasket?

When last were the plugs changed?

I usually start with the basics and work my way up from there.

Can you 'borrow' some injectors to try?

Couldnt tell you exactly, but it looks like the car got a full srvice for its mot just before i bought it. i've spied a brand new air filter on it, golden coloured oil, a new exhaust system and There plugs are a perfect dry browny colour... so it musta been recent enough.

I may take another visit to the scrappy to buy a stepper motor.... at which point i'll stick the fuel rail plus injectors down my trousers. If i'm asked any questions about it i'll just say i get turned on by engines.... they wont look at me ever again.

Hi,

You can try to:

- check air filter cables
- change fuel filter (you need to buy also fuel filter bracket ~1 pound, and you will fit it in 2 minuts)
- check fuel pomp pressure
- clean REGULATOR MOTOR (stepping motor)
- clean THROTTLE
...

p.s.

Sorry for edit but:

After regulator motor cleaning you will need to disconnect the acu for 20 minuts.

Best Regards
