Finding this forum a bit strange..

Post by Welly »

I am the world's worst at accomodating any changes and this is no exception but I am finding the new forum a bit hard to enjoy at the moment. It feels like it's lost some of the personal warmth it had before, a familiarity if you like.

I don't really like the 'sea of blue' same colour everywhere as it looks clinical and uninviting.

The avatars on the right of the screen are weird I think and the image quality is not being reproduced well on these (not the end of the world) I am trying to like it and have even made myself a new avatar with MS paint! I've also noticed some nifty features, which I will probably never get round to using - buy hey.

I keep finding myself thinking "who's that reply from then?" and "who wrote that?" because it doesn't seem immediately clear to me somehow and having to look for a user name.

Has anyone else felt this or am I being over-emotional and un-accepting (what? me?)

To Nick: I wouldn't pretend to understand the amount of work you have gone too to do this and I know it's for a good reason and I hope I will get used to it soon but at the moment I miss the old layout. I'm not criticising yourself at all and you have done well with this but maybe the pages need jollying up a bit with some colour or something?

No you aren't the only one, but I'm sure it's just a bit unusual and needs getting used to.

Just one thing is bugging me badly though, and that's the poor division between posts. I'm finding it quite difficult to see where one post ends and the next one begins, probably because of sigs with lots of text and quotes in. And I can see why other forums get so uptight about graphical sigs now.

Yes I think the divisons between posts were more clearly defined on the old forum, possibly due to a more striking colour change between them. These posts can look all merged in together, it's what I was saying before about not being able to tell clearly who's saying what etc.

The funny Sig Quotes maybe won't work as well here? that's the impression I have at the moment, and they certainly don't jump out at you as they did before.

Also I'm not sure each reply really has to say Re: [whatever subject] and by [username at date & time] just above the writers' text.

This was an emergency measure put in place - We had the script kiddies back, and instead of staying with software that would soon be superceeded, I bit the bullet and went to the newest version.

I remeber a few of ya's said the same thing when I set up the playground to muck around in - and it is something i'm looking at, and Niz is desinging..

Its a tad complicated just now - But we will get back to normal..

Its doing my head in only having the forums. I liked the welcome page, the recent posts scrolling block, the quick login block etc. I'm trying my best to modify code so that it'll get back to normal..

Oh - I think everyone should use welly's avatar - Its prolly the best I've ever seen on ANY forum. lol

N
Thanks,
Nick

same again, I have everything backed up - all the photos/comments - everything.

The forums do look a bit gay and uninviting like, you really need to move onto IPB, even if you have to start all over again, its a much better setup.

Just found at the top right of the screen next to the 'envelope' icon there is a ^A^ icon and this changes the font for the whole page.

I agree if doesn't feel "home" at the moment, but I'm sure we'll all get used to it.

Well done Nick and everyone else involved in keeping the site online.

The worst thing, is the post separation, like others said here. Also, the avatar/user info is on the wrong side of the monitor.... Would probably work well in right-to-left reading languages though :cheesy:
