Insurance!
Im coming to renew my insurance on my beloved 406 but alas, it's expensive! What do you all pay on insurance?
Im 21, male, black hair, brown eyes, chinese origin, 6 foot, 182lbs/82.5kg/13 stone (lol), passed in June 2006, live in Manchester (half a mile from Cheetham Hill, a mile from Salford), my car has no security (that I know of), I park in a garage, no convictions or claims, 0 no claims. Been quoted £1400 on 3rd party fire and theft.
Is this good or bad?

That is a question waiting to be asked - how do you get banned from using an insurance company?jameslxdt wrote:im banned from using them though
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

Why? Wait.. should I even be asking that question?jameslxdt wrote:I would also try tesco and churchill, im banned from using them though
Im still looking around Trem but Im doubtful that it's gonna drop from £1400 to anything I can call 'a great price'. I got quoted £1100 from ConnedFused and they must think they're comedians, made me dead excited then they said they couldnt give me the price for whatever reason...

Re: Insurance!
Yep, tried Confused, Churchill, Direct Line, Adrian Flux and loads more. I JUST got a quote back from a broker who pointed me towards Endsleigh who quoted me £1425 but it comes with legal cover and 90 days European cover and all the rest.

Re: Insurance!
Stay away from the main insurance companies.
I have had my licence a year, got a previous 6 months ban from 2004 with a TT99 (banned under the totting up procedure, i was stupid enough to be driving around with no licence and no tax or mot, in my golf GTI, i wasn't even speeding, got pulled because he noticed the Tax was out of date) on my licence, I'm 29, parked on a drive
My first car (legally) was a 1998 Citroen Xantia 1.9TD, Tesco's wouldn't insure me as i have a TT99, Lloyd's TSB told me £1500 in-fact all the main insurance companies were after £1400+ some even went as high as £2200
that was just for the Xantia.
I then found Quote-line direct, online got a quote from them at £1000, having had my licence for a week, they phoned me and i got it knocked down to £850 for the year on third party fire and theft. come renewal 12months later, it dropped to £550 for the year.
After 13months of having my licence and the Xantia, i sold the Xantia and got a 150bhp 2.0l Turbo, 406 executive 1997
With 1 years No claims, and looking for quotes again, i tried the top companies for the insurance on the 406, they still came in at over £1500 with people like the AA, Church hill, and direct line, so i phoned my insurance company up and my insurance went from £550 for the renewal to £620 after i had changed car, and its still cheaper than what i was paying last year, having held my licence for 1 year, i still have a 6 month ban i have to declare.
Give Quote-Line direct a call, or get a quote online and have them ring you. they are very helpful and friendly. and best of all Their cheap!
Also, it might help to find out if you have a Immobiliser on it, I'm pritty sure all 406's do. and if it doesn't, invest in one, the money you will save on insurance would be good, you have to remember Manchester isn't the best place for a non immobilized car. and a insurance company will be looking at that.
You get quotes based on
- Your age.
- Profession
- Security in the vehicle
- Area of residence and where the car will stay most of the time.
- No Claims bonuses
- Mods to the Vehicle
- Convictions ( Although you have to declare a motoring conviction for 5 years in the UK, most companies will not include it in the quote once it reaches 3 to 4 years since it happened)

Re: Insurance!
Believe it or not, I've already tried them and I think they were one of the cheapest quotes! When u say you knocked them down, what did you say to them? Never haggled with insurance people before...TehAgent wrote:Give Quote-Line direct a call, or get a quote online and have them ring you. they are very helpful and friendly. and best of all Their cheap!
THANKS FOR THE GREAT RESPONSE AS WELL PEOPLE! KEEP THEM COMING!
Re: Insurance!
said i had been quoted lower, they will ask how low, so with out saying anything, ask them how low they can go and you can compare the two. if they give you a good quote, take the reference number and say you will ring back.
If they say they cant go any lower, say a insurance company name, and say they quoted you £800, and then ask them if they can get anywhere near it as you have heard their a good company with a good reputation ( always makes the sales staff put you on hold why they ask their boss, or "let me see what i can do")
If they refuse to go any lower than the original quote, say "thank you for your time" hang up and phone them back, you will most likely get someone else, and try it again.
First time i went for the Xantia they swore blind they couldn't go no lower than £950, i said that the AA had quoted me 800 and could they match it or come close, they put me on hold to talk to someone (apparently) then came back on the phone and said they could do it for 850 and that was as low as they could go. so i said id ring them back as i wanted to do some more quotes here an their, got the reference number then rang um back and got insured.
The key is to not quote them too low a figure to match. if its too low, they just say "well you would be better off with them then" and that's pretty much it. then they wont budge no lower, even if you offered to take them out for dinner.
Also, when haggling, always try and talk to a Female sales staff if male, or a male sales staff if female, just hang up if its the wrong sex and try again. (I'm not being sexist, but its true, you get better deals when talking to the opposite sex than you do your own)

Re: Insurance!
I think the database that insurance companies are relatively similar... I used to work in Life Insurance and when quoting people, gave them what suited them best rather than the cheapest quote. Our database was used by 90% of insurers so if someone said they got quoted X amount, we would know if it was true because the computer would give us prices from the lowest possible to the highest and pick out the ones which were suited best to the data you inputted.
That had nothing to do with what the topic is about but I thought it'd be nice to share it...

Re: Insurance!
That data base is usually a ball park figure, from, As you say, the details you feed into it. it basically references all the other insurance company quotes based on you answers.
That's why its usually best to go for the small guy when it comes to insurance. OK you get more extras with the big ones, but then their big because they know how to screw you when a claim is made.
Big companies like to hold on to their accumulated wonga.

Re: Insurance!
Isn't Manchester the car crime hotspot in the UK?
406 is expensive to insure here as the parts are expensive and bloody hard to get a hold of...trust me, I know from experience
