Since seeing an engine bay identical to mine that's been steam cleaned in the past, I've been somewhat enlightened as to the practical usefulness of having a clean bay. So what's the best way to achieve it?
There's no way I'm going to expose my connectors to a steam cleaning. I did try once to have a go using WD40 on a rag which worked well, but 1/2 a can for not much cleaning is a bit expensive.
Suggestions?

Protecetion. That´s the key word. Use the rubber....
....or that plastic kitchen thing (what is it called...)that you wrap your sandwiches into. Cover all the electric parts with that and place a plastic bag over the ecu. Better make it tight. Then use any ol´engine wash and follow the instructions in the package and just scrub the sh*t away...I´ve done it once using engine wash, a rag, a "bottle scrub" and water. Be sure, that I won´t do it again. First of all it´s a LOT of work. And then after the wash the idle problems followed for some time. At first the car wouldn´t start at all an then when it finally did it was running on three and occasional "buffs" were coming out of the exhaust. This was enough to scare me. Nowadays I´ll take the car to the Peugeot service for engine cleaning ( I´ve had it down there twice). I know, I know....you might think it costs a small fortune but....it was something like 20€
And the best part is that if any troubles with car occur afterwards I can always blame it on them. Well I don´t know about the UK prices but sure is worth asking.....

Well it was just we were looking at the slave cylinder for the clutch on the new car, and I realised you just can't see it on mine, just a mess of barely visible black-on-black shapes...Welton wrote:*Ahemmjb wrote:I've been somewhat enlightened as to the practical usefulness of having a clean bay.

Won't work on my D8, it's always gonna look awful 'cos some very intelligent person has sprayed it all with ignition sealer. It's a diesel you tw@
I like the idea of taking it somewhere for a clean, sounds like a lot less grief.
