Indicator stalk

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Cheer up ol' bean I was only horsing around with you fello, there's no pecking order here, what what.

Anyway, Honest John said....

"Dozens of fires involving 2002/3 model year 406 HDIs in 2003. Wiring went Multiplex. The control module for the front mounted engine cooling/air-con fan can start burning after being parked for several hours, though has also occurred while being driven. See recalls".

"Safety recall for 2002/3 406 HDIs with Multiplex wiring as water may enter the under bonnet cooling fan control module, cause a short circuit and start and engine fire. Modified cooling fan assembly to be fitted".

Not sure about this one:
15-8-2003: 35,670 406s recalled because connections for seatbelt pretensioners and side airbags may be "inverted" so wrong side airbag may be triggered in an impact.

Right that only refers to HDi's. I don't know if it includes all the other models. Someone once sold me that if there's a noticable delay between pressing the horn and any noise being produced (mine does this) that indicates that the car is multiplexed, although I suppose that the delay could just be the instruction being routed though the BSi? Although the wife's 206 had a BSI and you got the impression that when you operated the controls in that, stuff happened. In mine when you operate the controls, some kind of magic occurs which eventually results in some system or other performing some action, most of the time it's the right system that performs the action, but I personally reckon that's more to do with luck than the reliability of the system.

Yup mine had that recall. Caused yet another dispute with the local stealer, this time over the premium they wanted to charge me to waive the excess on the courtesy car.

I thought this looked familiar. Compare and contrast.

Why two arrows instead of a picture of a trumpet?

Dai, I notice that with my headlights, when it's dark I like to turn them briefly down to sidelights when I'm flashing someone so as not to blind whoever I'm flashing but the lights generally don't bother to do it for me. It's not as if the drivers here know what the hell I'm on about anyway, too busy admiring that big blue light...

The pic in this thread is a D9 non-multiplex stalk with trip computer pushbutton on it
The pic in the thread you linked to is the D8 stalk with the horn at the end.

D9s evidently have the horn on the steering wheel, D8s have the trip computer button at the end of the wiper stalk

Puggy the horn button is shown as being on the ends of the airbag thingy, byt you can press the airbag thingy anywhere and it'll work.

I never press my 'hooter' in my car, in fact it's always a nice little check to do before the MOT  :)
