guzzling petrol

hi there all..... hoping for some help here,

my pug has started using twice as much petrol as usual..... ie i put £20.00 worth in and i only got 90 miles out of her before the dreaded orange light came on and now fuel is over £1.00 per litre i can hardly afford to continue ..... by the way last week it was using about £10.00 per 100 miles which it has always done since i got it so does anyone know what could have happened???

Greetings! There's all sorts of threads on here for all sorts of problems so have a wee search. Seems like the temperature sensor is a common one but I think that should bring up the engine warning light. It's probably worth having it diagnosed by someone with the right equipment (look for a big Bosch sign...) but you should start with the obvious ones - has one of your brake callipers/wheel cylinders siezed or is there a small furry animal stuck in your air filter...

Thanks for the tips there Steve I've noticed mine getting thirstier since I bought it, I haven't bothered to look at the air filter yet but I will now! In fact I should give it a service really

my old 2.0 never used to do more than 90 miles to £20 when driving arround town, on the motorway it would do about 200 though

Check the wheels are free to turn. I gained 15mpg when I got my rear drums sorted out

There is a good book I picked up this weekend - something like Top Gear My dad had one of those.

Look at the MPG that those cars returned!!

Even a V6 seems economical compared to those

There was mention of the high price of petrol on Top Gear last night.

35p/litre for fuel 65p/litre in tax

thanks all for the tips to hel sort out my problem........i know my wheels and brakes arnt sicking as i only sorted them out less than a month ago lol ....it failed its mot on front discs and pads so they got changed and just before the mot i went to tighten my hand bake up and found out my wheel cylinders were leeking so new cylinders, shoes and full clean and adjust on them too lol

as for the price of petrol

did you all know these facts:-

1 forecourts only recieve 2.00 pence per litre
2 suppliers get 10.00 pence per litre
3 oil companies get 10.00 pence per litre to extract and refine the oil
4 the remaining balance goes to the government in taxes per litre

these re acts told to me by good good friend of mine working in the business so i know they are a true figure of where your money goes per litre of fuel bought
i'll let you all judge how greedy our government realy is
