8v turbo chip?

can some one tell me what difference a chip will make to a 8v turbo petrol and how much to pay for one or can i just get a remap ?

Depends what you mean by a chip. If you mean the cheap resistors that wire in series with the inlet air temp sensor that are sold on ebay as "performance chips" then you'll get almost nothing at all.

If you mean a proper piggy-back ecu with a boost control function, then properly tuned with appropriate breathing mods you should see quite a big difference.

I don't believe the Bosch ECU in the 8v turbo can be remapped, but then I'm only new here so what would I know?

A company like chipwizzards say they can remap ANY car, you could try them. Otherwise your best bet would be full standalone management but then you're looking at £1000 +

Try "Collins performance Engineering" had them do a remap on my 8vt Exec it now gives 172 BHP. (As tested on Aldon automotive's rolling road.) A bargain at £250.

HI, i don't have any print outs, i have used Alan Googwin at Aldon automotive for many years and when an intermittent missfire occured on the pug i had them check it out ( Plug lead). When they ran it up on there rollers to check the fueling it showed just over 170bhp at the fly wheel.

The car runs a factory ecu. Collins call there conversion's ''powerchip upgrade'' but when we spoke on the phone they refer to it as a remap. (Contact: Collins performance Engineering on 01260 279604 for more info.)
I have run the car now for two years and 30,000 miles( now 120,00 miles) with this upgrade the noticable difference been it pulls stronger in 3rd and 4th gear. Would recomend it!!

Hey thanks zoomer. I just gave them a call and apparently they do actually remap the factory ECU rather than fit a piggy-back chip.. off to go and do some more research

A typical off the shelf superchip will give 180hp in return, for something running 172hp they could do with 'chip tuning' it some more.... you can get that with just a boost increase and an FCD.

It's best if you can get the stock unit remapped specifically for your set up, not every car is the same and as such they won't all produce the same power levels.. so although 30hp might sound great, you may only end up with 20 - 25hp for circa £400 +. £250 though, that's a good price...

What I want to know though is how they remap the factory ECU. I'm having a devil of a time finding information on reprogramming the Bosch MP3.2 ECU. But then I can't even work out whether there's a diagnostic connector either. Some things I read tell me there's a two wire connector in the engine bay, others suggest there's a 30 pin connector floating around somewhere. I'm guessing the MP3.2 needs to be flashed on the bench with an eeprom writer - there seem to be plenty of people claiming to remap the ECU but I'll be stuffed if I can find reference to software that'll interpret the factory map in anything other than a straight hex dump.

If I can find a way to reflash the factory ECU I'd be thrilled. It's a much better plan than fitting a piggy-back, even if I can't tune it on the road.

I agree 172 bhp doesn't sound a lot. Will prob get it tested on another rolling road for comparison.....

The 2 pin connector is for diagnostic codes only... the 32 pin socket in the drivers compartment.... under the immobiliser keypad is where the magic happens... lol it's old school eprom flashing tools that will help tune the mp3.2, if you want big things... pay for piggy or stand-alone !

Oh, so you have to take the keypad out to get at the other socket? I don't suppose it's EODB or ODB2 compatible is it?

Well you lower the panel to access the fursebox and the connector is next to the fuse box... What year is yours???

If its a 96' model then it's neither EODB or ODBII as this was prior to Peugeot putting the standards on their cars... it's a peugeot propietary interface / protocol etc.. I know, rubbish right.... ! If you email Malachy off here he can do you a standalone mega-squirt with a plug and play harness too.
