Re: How can i make my HDI 110 more economical
Here's one. I've tapped in a few numbers, just to see if it works:
Annual Mileage: 12,000
Current MPG: 30
Petrol cost (pence per litre): 98.3 (bloody hell! You poor b'stards!)
LPG cost (pence per litre): 45.2
Your annual savings running on LPG.
Petrol Cost Per Annum: £1,787.49
LPG Cost Per Annum: £945.20
Saving Per Annum: £842.28
The calculations assume a 15% reduction in MPG when using LPG.
Obviously, I'd do the math yourself before you commit to anything, rather than believe people who have a vested interest...

Re: How can i make my HDI 110 more economical
That's outrageous! It's all heading towards 80p here, which is bad enough.
New figures (from here) then.
Petrol at £101.9/30mpg for 12,000 miles = £1,852.95 annually.
LPG at 49.3 = £1,030.94.
I also stuck in diesel at 104.6/51mpg for 12,000 miles and get an annual cost of £1,118.85 (excluding FAP
)
It seems that the more uneconomical your car, the more you'd save having it converted but that kind of defeats the object really. Also, the more miles you do, the more attractive the lpg gets. I must admit I've no idea how this'll affect carbon emissions, then we're burning wood here and it's just not an issue...

Few extra drops can be saved by turning the A/C off...

It'll turn itself on again! Best to unplug the compressor.

I wonder how LPG would affect the performance.
The whole point of a V6 is to accelerate a comfy living room with all the comforts to a stupid speed quicker than you can choose a track on a CD

Not a lot, if it's done right.V6Exec wrote:I wonder how LPG would affect the performance.
Yes, but when most of your dials are flying round clockwise one of them's moving the other way... (personally, I loved my straight six express drawing room but I'm not meant to talk about it on here)The whole point of a V6 is to accelerate a comfy living room with all the comforts to a stupid speed quicker than you can choose a track on a CD![]()

Re: How can i make my HDI 110 more economical
Try taking out 3 pistons, then blocking off 3 injectors. That will give you more MPG
to cut down on rolling resistance, remove 2 wheels . Remove all doors, & glass. You wont need all the seats or infact a body shell. Remove all lighting except for 1 headlamp and tail light.. then you will have an economical diesel scooter 80mpg +

Re: How can i make my HDI 110 more economical
I have an LPG VW Caravelle which cost me £900 to convert but then we are talking about a 2.1 petrol injection engine that does 22 mpg! There is no proper solution yet for diesels .. some claims but nothing proven.adam03031980 wrote:Welll its very good actually i filled my tank up once to the brim and got 750 miles out of it and still had near quarter of a tank and it is service regualry just there is lpg for petrols and wondered if there was anything available for diesels i reckon i muct get 55-60 or more mpg it uses very little and i average 60mph in a week
My D9 406 110 HDI estate does around 44 mpg averaged over a lot of miles - not great and the garage just told me there was metal in the fuel filter so the fuel injection pump is on its way out

Re: How can i make my HDI 110 more economical
its possible to get 35mpg out of a hdi that is running perfectly. mine does 50-55 on my commute but on trips into london i ve averaged 27mpg! Iit all depends the type of driving and your style.
If there is something wrong i would expect plugin it into to a comp or a smoke test to help. A fault sensor would hopefully (possibly) be picked up by ecu, if its a injector it will probably run ruff and emissions will be up.
I'd be checking your tyre pressures and that none of the brakes are sticking first thou.

when a HDi has a dodgy injector it almost always results in poor starting or hesitating to start
