We can get a Ferry from Newcastle to Ijmuiden with DFDS Seaways.

Return Ferry Crossing over a midweek in May ?239 1 person and 1 car

Hull - Rotterdam ?230 1 person and 1 car
Hull - Zeebrugge ?230 1 person and 1 car
**** Dover - Boulogne Car and Upto 5 ppl ?30 each way ****
http://www.speedferries.com
Boulogne - Nurburgring 285 miles.

Track Ticket Prices
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/prices.html
Ticket type Price in Euros Sterling equiv Sterling per lap
Single lap ?16 ?10.91 ?10.91
4-lap one-day ticket ?56 ?38.17 ?9.54
8-lap ticket ?108 ?73.62 ?9.20
15-lap ticket ?195 ?132.93 ?8.86
25-lap ticket ?305 ?207.92 ?8.31

Hotel stays are about ?45 ?30 near the track.
If you want to get an idea of all-in costs for a weekend trip, for a 'standard' weekend (out Fri, full day Saturday, half-day Sunday, return Sun afternoon/eve) from London by car, the costs look something like this:
Channel crossing: Varies, but say typically ?120
Petrol en-route: Typically 2 x ?50 = ?100
Petrol there: Say ?75
Bed-and-breakfast per person: ?20 per night x 2 = ?40
Food: 2 x dinner, 2 x lunch, food en-route, beer = ?80
Ring tickets: Say 2 x 12-lap tickets = ?216
Total = approx ?616

Optional extras available at additional cost include armco repairs, safety car attendance, vehicle recovery, track closure, hospital stays and helicopter rides. I recommend avoiding these. If you can't, then the following price-list may help:
Removing damaged armco: ?10/metre (x2 or x3 or x4 for multiple-height sections)
Replacement armco: ?31/metre (x2 or x3 for double/triple height)
Removing damaged armco posts: ?5.10 each
Replacing armco post: ?39 each
Safety car attendance: ?82 per 30 mins (car + 2 people)
Circuit closure: ?1,350 per hour
Recovery truck: ?175 (inc VAT)
Hospital stay & air ambulance: Let's just say, do NOT go there without travel insurance! (Though a European Health Card - which replaced the E111 - may cover the hospital bit.)

Everything except the recovery truck is then subject to 16% VAT.

The record armco bill I'm aware of is ?15,000. That was a car that managed to flatten a very impressive length of armco between the Quiddlebacher Hohe bridge and the crest on the approach to Flugplatz. But even a minor bump can turn into a surprisingly expensive day out.
Its maybe worth saving up for or doing the Nurburgring Cannonball.

I think I will pass on the Nurburgbumring tour lol ....... thats a little too expensive for my student wallet.

That amount of money could be put to better use, like forged pistons and a stage 3 head ! !

Damn thats expensive!

I think a UK track day would be better.
We can all meet at some central location and then convoy to the track.

A pug at the Ring.

Before the Lap

After/During

The real luck of the weekend, amazingly, happened on the very same lap. Niek came into Brunnchen 1 sideways, as he does, when the car caught and rolled. It rolled all the way over and back onto its wheels, and neither Niek nor his passenger were hurt. I saw the car parked up on the inside, but by the time I realised it was Niek, I was too far past to safely stop. I had, though, seen that Niek was standing by the car and didn't appear to be hurt. I went back round to check that he was ok, and the safety car was on-scene and the track closed just after I set off.

His passenger, Clare, was there at the Ring for the first time. She was planning a bike trip in May, and Adrian invited her along to get an, er, gentle introduction to the Ring via some car passenger laps. She wasn't hurt either, aside from some bruising, but was glad of a ride back to the car-park to save waiting around for the recovery truck.

I'm now planning on doing this next year in July 2007 with about 20 others from the Northeast.
Getting the ferry from Newcastle tho, having a party as might be our last.

I did some 'wet' laps of the Ring in my 406 about a fortnight ago. big car + wet track= not a lot of fun  i reckon between 15-16 mins for the laps i did.
Can't wait to go back in my MR2 on the way to and from Oktoberfest next month 8)

I've never actually stayed in a hotel in Nurburg or Adenau but about ?30 a night sounds about right from people i've spoken too.
Beware of Speedferries! the slightest bit of weather and they cancel the sailing (I had two crossings cancelled in May as well as one last December) so i use Norfolkline now. takes 2hrs to Dunkirk and there cheaper than Dov-Calais operators.
Watch out if you de-tour into Holland as the dutch police/immigration are pulling in foriegn cars just past their borders, nothing major just a passport check, but if they scan them it might get flashed through to our customs= guarenteed search at Dover on the way home.

Ouch at the Pug. How much did he have to pay to get taken off the ring and for the time that the ring was closed? at least he didnt have to pay for any damage by the looks of things (other than the car).

From friends who have been to the ring. (travelling down from Newcastle) they have spent about ?500 to get 1 car/2 people to the ring and back, including 2 nights in hotel, food, drink, petrol, all tolls and ferries and 8 laps I think.
So not too bad when you look at it that way. Works out about ?250 pp.
