Can someone check it's pins 26 and 45 on the ECU plug? I'm seeing no electrical connection between them. Urgh. £23 for a new sensor from the stealers (should be in stock and a mad headache to replace. Is it possible for someone with big hands to change it without taking the coil pack out?

Additionally the ECU reset made most of the problems go away - until I got to work where it promptly stalled as I tried to park. D'oh.

Yes it is between 26 and 45 according to autodata; sensor is B24 in bottom right.

Never thought about looking at the wiring diagram; I just headed straight for the ECU pinout section.

Oh man it was such a sweet drive home this evening. Idled well (albeit high at 1000rpm) while I demisted the windscreen then ooooh so much more power!

I hope it is the coolant sensor. With there being no connection between the pins this morning I'm worried it might be a break in the wiring, which would be just as painful to replace. Don't really fancy having to solder a new wire to that ECU plug. Guess I could check when I replace the thing, save getting the engine bay drenched twice (it always bloody rains when I've started dismantling stuff under there!).

have you checked the resistance of the sensor

As I said earlier, there's no electrical connection between the ECU plug contacts. By that I mean infinite resistance - ie something's broken. I haven't checked the actual sensor on its own (ie without the wiring between it and the ECU) because I didn't fancy draining the radiator, taking half the engine bay out then having to put it all back together in the dark cos i'd run out of lunch break ;)

Besides, I sliced my index finger last night and didn't fancy dripping coolant into an open wound

MOT time's coming up fast and I reckon the misfires might put the emissions test in jeopardy, so I just ordered the sensor (bloody £23!) this morning for collection friday lunchtime so i can fit it saturday unless it's bloody peeing down again, as it is every time I go to work on the damn thing

Why don't you do a continuity check of the leads from sensor to the ecu plug?
Coolant in an open wound, reminds me of when I used to clean typewriters & got meths in cuts! Sterilised it well though!

Because it'd involve taking the air filter box and pipe out and I haven't got time to do that until the weekend, hence buying a replacement sensor anyhow. Also I don't fancy doubling my chance to lose the silly wire clip that holds the connector on

You mean the little clip that you just push in with your thumb to remove the connector?

No the vaguely U-shaped bit of thick wire (paperclip diameter) you lever out with a screwdriver then watch as it bounces off half the contents of your engine bay before disappearing ;)

Eh?

We talking about the same things here? Obviously this ain't a pic of the sensor, but the clip looks the same
