Is PUG dealer network really that bad?

Post by SteveI »

Hello Chaps,

Just picked up a 1999 D9 V6 estate on Saturday. All seems to be in mint condition (only 66K on the clock).

However, given that I'm rubbish at anything mechanical, I'm looking for a place in the MK/Nhampton/Bedford area that I can trust with my new toy.

I get the impression no one is happy with the Pug dealer network. so just wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere else.

I don't mind travelling out a bit further but then they'd have to offer courtesy/hire cars.

Thanks in advance.

Pug told me my fuel pump was dying but an injection specialist hooked up his box of tricks and it said it was the needle lift sensor gone. Then again, they were able to diagnose my air bag and speedo issues by substituting new ones.

I reckon they're ok for Pug things but if you have engine management problems go to an engine management specialist, someone who really knows what they're doing. Same with other stuff, if there's a specialist go to them instead (air con, gearbox etc etc.)

The price of parts at the dealers is astronomical too.

The main dealers are not interested in 'older' cars and just seem to do fluid changes and warrenty work on new cars upto 3 years old. There is the higher labour cost of course which puts people off once the car gets older.

Your car has got low mileage but the cambelt has been in there 9 years and probably hasn't been changed. You certainly don't want to go to Peugeot for that little job

Anyway that thread persuaded me not have mine done.

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

There's obviosly good and bad, but for general customer service, the Peugeot dealer network is worthy of its place in various surveys....

.......somewhere in the bottom three normally.
