Ah, but you're meant to leave it there while you run the engine 'til the cooling fans cut in and while it cools down afterwards.

The tape's not ideal I know, but it's nice and tight and I get to do something else while it's doing it's thang. The tape was only meant to be temporary until I found something better but I've used it 3 times now and nothing else has come up. Actually, I'd like to get another cap, make a hole in the top and araldite the bottle in there but my access to breaker's yards is zero. I wonder how much a new one is...

So do Peugeot provide some uber expensive solution to this problem? £50 for a funnel?

I will be looking at stuff like that on the weekend when I have a chance to check the car over. So which french designer was high as a kite when he designed this? I checked under the bonnet, and had NO idea where the expansion tank was.

Thank god the previous owner keep all the user manuals etc.

You know whats worse? I have to shell out for a new haynes manual as the one I have just inherited is for the D9's. FECK!

I must've been incredibly lucky or stupid when I changed my rad.
I filled it up the first time 'til it came to the neck, ran the engine for a couple of mins and topped it up again.
Took the car for a drive & when the engine had cooled down re-topped it & the level has stayed the same.
I'm getting the feeling I'm doing something very wrong here!

You probably filled up using my technique (parking with drivers side slightly raised) :)
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
