I win! Oops, sorry. Sign yourself up to this, it's free. You can stick your chassis number in the box and it'll bring up the parts for your car, you may have to trawl for it but it's quite interesting.

At a guess I'd say the whine was the flywheel driving the pinion as it was gummed up with oil. Speaking of which, did anyone get to the root of that oil leak?

Not yet they will do when I give them the part, I will ask them to clean the flywheel (is that correct) Meant to be going away Easter weekend so hope to be sorted by then, Im knackered walking back and forth to work clocking up about 6 miles a day
Will keep you posted ....

Had a bit of a problem the garage that towed my car could not fit the starter motor until Wed and said it would take around 3 hours, managed to get another mechanic Alistair who went and towed my car to his workshop, got the part at 12 yesterday and he fitted it had car back by 2 cost £30. Dead cheeky 8) but 3 hours !!!
Will go back to Alistair tomorrow think that the noise is coming from under the car got my husband to rev the car up while I looked under and around where the fap was fitted that is where the noise seems loudest the fap seems to move quite a bit,

Also need to get a window switch as the drivers wouldnt go back up so 1st garage disconnected it and jammed the window

Nice one Norma. Do you reckon you can blame whoever fitted your new FAP? :?

Dare I say oil leak??

Ladies who have an interest in what goes on under the bonnet gladens the heart, mine is totally clueless unfortunatly. On the other hand, a guy who's no idea is seriously letting the side down. Can he change a light bulb?

I could not possibly go back to the garage that fitted the fap I have already sent of letter of complaint to Head Office, fed up with the service there :D If they had done the job properly in Oct I might have gone back. :cheesy: but it was down to their incompetence . ( women we will tell them anything they aint got a clue) Told me it was covered under warranty and it wasnt got £450 bill I offered to pay for all parts considering they damaged the fuel filter as it was leaking when collected car only done 1200 miles since got the car in Sept.

Dont think my neighbour is to happy with me, he told me the oil leak had damaged the starter, There is trace of oil but it was not going into starter, and said 3 -4 hours work, so I pulled car out of there :(

My dad and brother always tinkered with cars, and I used to spend ages watching and probably getting on their nerves asking questions.
Hubby no interest and after 15 years nagging him he has learnt to drive and passed his test, still does not enjoy it
