Brake sensor slowing my D9 HDI 110 down!

Post by diesel406 »

Yes - the diagnostics showed that the brake sensor was sending a slow down signal to the engine control computer at the same time as the throttle position sensor said go faster - so as I tried to accelerate, the engine was also being told to back off! Sadly I didn't get a chance to see the diagnostics running ... but the garage is reputable and they changed the brake sensor switch ... £70 later it is now running better so I am told (well the wife is test driving it now! :D ) A lot cheaper than the following:

Has anyone else come across this on a D9 / 2003 / 110 HDI?

The symptoms I had was a drop in MPG, sometimes the engine felt unresponsive but when I kicked down out of gear I got a plug of black smoke from the exhaust. I wondered if it was the wear in the fuel pump (they garage has found small bits of metal in the fuel filters). They also told me if I change the fuel injection pump, I will kick off a lot more problems .. I guess this is due to the calibration of the system being thrown out with a different pump.

Any comments? :?:

Cheers :cheesy:
