D9 406 HDi 90 Estate - Coil Spring went bang!!

Post by skylinemv »

Heard a bang yesterday outside the front of the house thought a shooting was happening but no gunmen. Looked at the car thirty minutes later and it looked remarkably low, upon inspection sure enough the passengerside coil had cracked at the bottom :(

Seen a few posts on here with the same problem at the same mileage what an pain :x

Anyway ordered a complete unit from ebay for £60 and spent today stripping out the old one.

The only casualty was the upper link arm to anti role bar, some things just don't budge at 123k.

Just waiting for the delivery and making a list of the sundaries like gearbox oil, nuts bolts etc.

Will update when she is fixed. :o

...and blower motors!
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I'm not so worried about blower motors, I don't think a blower motor failure could put me upside-down in a ditch. :?

True, but only as long as it took the car to catch fire.

Good point. You need things like ignition of combustible material and/or electricity for fire, neither of which D9s tend to do very well... :P

Red hot manifold + dot 4 brake fluid = fire. Anyway, diesel burns, I've used it to get the boiler going. :frown:
