Lights

Post by Cassius2k »

Hi everyone, I'm new here and a newish pug 406 owner. I need some advice on my lights. I have a 406 HDI Diesel 2 litre V reg, ive just had a service and they replaced the side light bulbs. Now whenever the lights are on the beam is very high, to the point that everyone thnks I have my high beam on. If I use the adjuster above the lights (which way do I turn it to turn it down) does it turn the side lights down as they seem to be the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Cassius. Umm, not really sure but you could try adjusting them in the dark, find a convenient wall (I used my neighbour's house across the road) and see what happens. I didn't think sidelight bulbs could be that bright! (wrong bulbs?) Umm, the other problem is where will your dip beams end up - pointing down at the road a yard in front of your car? Also, I'm not sure if your car has "dim dip" - runs the dip beam lights at a reduced voltage when the sidelights are on and the engine running (mine's Italian spec and doesn't seem to have this) so something else to watch for.

Go back to the servicing garage and make them sort it out.... :frown:

Does sound as if you're talking about your dipped headlights rather than your sidelights. Simply changing the bulbs shouldn't affect the alignment noticably unless they aren't seated properly like puggy says. Why did they change them anyway, were both bulbs blown?

Yeah they had blown, the side lights now point upwards. The guy who done it is a nightmare to get hold of though, is it a case of just taking them out and putting them back in?

I can't imagine how you could make them shine upwards, if it wasn't raining I'd go out and try it. You could always have a look and see if you can work out what he did. Don't force anything tho...

Dudes, can we please clear up the sidelights / dipped headlights thing? Surely we aren't really talking about the sidelights? :?

Good point! If it's the dip beam bulbs then his mechanic must be one hell of a monkey to jam them in upside down...

It sounds like the dipped bulbs (H7's) have been changed but not seated properly. They are offered into the hole in the back of the reflector and then a quarter-turn seats them in the right place, if they're not right then the focal point of the light source will be wrong and affect the beam pattern.

If you're not happy having a go yourself then get this guy to fix it.
