Bloody bike, Grrr

Post by teamster1975 »

Quiet afternoon today and a weekend away on the bike so I thought "fix all those niggles to be on safe side!"

Tighten head bearings - Done. (I fitted new ones a short while back so they had bedded in!)
Unseize caliper slider on front  - Done!!
Adjust throttle cables... The bloody deceleration cable has snapped, that's why the throttle sleeve has a quarter turn of play

Bike throttles have two cables, one opens it, the other pulls it closed. Ok? :cheesy:

Have they never heard of spring butterflies? :?

Edited to say: I may have just realised that if you were able to 'throtle off' quickly using a sprung throttle it might have you thrown off the bike?

The deceleration cable returns the throttle sleeve to the idle position so you don't have to twist it back (although you do this anyway seeing as you're gripping it!)

Well I've got it all back together, I had a spare cable buried amongst all my other crap
Of course to fit it you have to take the carbs off; I found that there were no screws securing the carb rubbers!! (I think I forgot to tighten them last time I had the carbs out! )
Trip to homebase, got replacements, lovely jubbly :cheesy:
Decide to check coolant level while I've got the tank off, appears to be empty  (weird thing is the bike is running at correct temperature :? )
Filled it up, ran engine, all seemed fine and then I got a drip from the radiator. Aaaaargh! It had radweld in it about a year ago so it's fekked.
Unbelievable. First the car rad and now the bike
