Don't buy a 407

Post by muffindell »

Hello folks, I miss my 406 2lt Hdi lump, it was sooooooooooooo reliable. Now I have a 407 2lt Hdi 16v SW and it's sooooooooooooooooo unreliable. To date...
Rear wiper seized solid
Engine tray vanished
EGR valve failed causing limp mode and then stop
Fuel pump failed causing limp, stop and lots of metal floating around a full fuel system, complete fuel system drain and rebuild
FAP filter failed
Clutch slips in 4th, 5th and 6th at peak torque
Air conditioning blown high pressure hose
Black smoke (lots and lots) on acceleration, noisy vibration like bearing failure at certain revs, lack of power, banging on underside, one injector wet, slightly low compression on one cylinder, solution - possible NEW ENGINE
All this in a 3year old car with full service history, cost to date not including engine £2500, I have driven the car for just one in 3 months, the balance as been spent in the dealers workshop..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I had no intention of buying a 407, no matter how good the SW looks the boot's pathetic.

Sorry to har your troubles though, sounds like a real lemon. Where did you buy it from? If it was a dealer then you should have some comeback under the 1978 sale of goods act. If private you need to light the rag just before you throw a Molotov.

Bought it from a dealer in Uttoxeter, a letter was sent to them last Friday stating the sales of goods act 1979 and outlining all the faults; I now await some sort of response within the 7 days I gave. My local Peugeot dealer have been great to be honest, I haven't been without wheels all the time it's been with them, even if it has cost a fortune!

Steve, the boot isn't all that bad to be honest, yeah it's certainly not the largest thing on earth, but it certainly looks the prettiest, although I do like the VW Passat estate, maybe once this as all been sorted out I should consider defecting to the Germans :)

As the reviews say, form over function (like girls wearing miniskirts in the middle of winter  )

Oh yes, the Pussat, never go wrong, so they say...

That, all the trouble my mate had with his one and the fact that every time I've seen a car on a low loader lately it always seems to be a Pussat or a Glof.

I agree about VW's just ain't as reliable as they used to be.

As for the 407, after my recent hounrey to Manchester in a 407 with no heating controls at all (then they worked on the way home), and your episodes, I think I'll be writing of the 407 (and passat for that matter) as the next car.

The Mondeos and Vectras may be bland compared to Peugeots, but you know what your getting.

As long as I live, I will never buy another Frod (unless it's amazingly cheap of course).

I'm quite liking the new Scooby diesels myself, when I've saved up enough pennies to chop the D9 in I think that's what I'll be going for (that'll be in about 25 years  )
